Alaska Airlines Visa Spending Offer

Banks have really stepped up their game when it comes to targeted spending offers on their cards. The truth is they spend so much money on customer acquisition that it makes sense to get you to keep using your cards once you are a customer. Sometimes they offer cash or points incentives, sometimes extra benefits and from time to time a discount.

Bank of America just sent me that last type of targeted offer for their co-branded Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card. Instead of an extra mile or two per dollar spent, here is the offer:

  • Spend $250 or more on purchases with your Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card in June and receive a $50 flight discount toward any Alaska Airlines flight.

Offer Terms

Of course I expected there to be some sort of catch like a minimum purchase amount, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The terms do state that your account must remain open and enrolled in the Alaska Airlines MileagePlan program until the coupon posts in order to be eligible. (No product conversions.) The code is good for one year and Bank of America reserves the right to send you a 1099!

Why I Like It

In addition to the normal money earned for regular spend, this basically gives you 20% cashback on the $250 spend to be used towards Alaska Airlines. If you have the Alaska card then you surely like the airline, so this is a win win. Alaska Airlines codes are super easy to apply online too. This deal is probably best for people who live in an Alaska Airlines hub who fly shorter flights with lower fares.

Conclusion

I like this offer since it is fairly rewarding monetarily and doesn’t require a lot of spend. It isn’t the kind of offer that will allow me to go crazy, but it will most likely get me to pop out the Alaska Airlines card for a bit of quick spend so I have the option of using that certificate to save money later.

  1. @DW Alaska does not allow you to use more than one discount code per purchased flight. I am sitting on several from Alaska for canceled flights and delayed flights and since they are only valid for one year, they will probably expire before I can use them.

  2. Thanks for posting this as I almost missed it. Checked my emil and I received this as well. I will be spending about $300 on my Alaska card this month so it’s good timing. Any idea if one can use multiple discount codes when booking a flight? I wouldn’t mind using this with the companion fare this fall.
