Another Terrible Albertson’s Gift Card Deal

About a month ago I posted a terrible gift card deal from Albertson’s. (See: Is This the Future of Gift Card Deals.) In that post I speculated that these types of deal may be the future.

Companies like Albertson’s seem to have figured out how to maximize their return with these promotions. Lets take a look at their latest deal.

The Deal

Buy $100 or more in participating gift cards and save $15 off a Floral Department purchase of $15 or more.

Fine Print

Gift Cards and Floral purchase must be in the same transaction Offer Valid 2/11/15-2/14/15. Participating cards include: AMC, Applebee’s, Binker, IHOP, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Nordstorm, Regal, Sephora, and Visa Gift Card*. (*$25 and $50 fixed value gift card denominations for Visa Gift Card Only). 

Analysis

As you can see, they are once again limiting the Visa gift cards to $25 and $50 amounts, meaning you must buy at least two with a $4.95 fee each. Additionally, this time instead of getting the credit towards any purchase, you only get a $15 credit in the floral department. In other words, a terrible deal.

Conclusion

I am always seeking out gift card deals and every once in awhile I come across a stinker. Unfortunately it seems lately Albertson’s has had more stinkers than good deals lately. Hopefully the other chains don’t begin to adopt these tactics.

Either way, it is good to see both the good with the bad. It helps people newer to the hobby hone their deal finding senses. Hopefully the next Visa gift card deal I share will be much better!

  1. Ultimately, these don’t bother me. It is an attempt to lure in the guy who wants to be only horribly unsuccessful on Valentine’s day rather than completely unsuccessful. This card promotion is clearly focused on date, dinner, gift and….”FREE FLOWERS!”

    Albertson’s seems very aware that there is easy, profitable prey out there this time of the year.
