American AAdvantage Shopping Bonus Promotion

American AAdvantage Shopping Bonus Promotion

I really love shopping portal promotions and earn thousands of extra miles every year because of them. Over the past couple of months we have seen quite a few promotions which has been great. Let’s take a look at the latest one.

The Offer

  • Spend $200 and earn 500 bonus AAdvantage miles

Key Terms

  • “Big Game Bonus” bonus offer runs from 1/12/17 through 1/18/17 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”).
  • Member will earn a one-time bonus of 500 AAdvantage® miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard AAdvantage® miles earned from shopping online through the AAdvantage eShoppingSM mall.
  • “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.

You can find the full details & terms here.

Analysis

They ran the exact same promo in October and I’m glad to see it return. Basically it works out to an extra 2.5X miles per dollar on the $500 in spend. Since the bonus is in addition to the normal earnings, you can do quite well. I still recommend comparing portal rates at a site like Cash Back Monitor to make sure you are getting the best return and don’t forget to maximize your family’s accounts as well!

Happy Shopping!

  1. Does anyone else seem to have to ALWAYS request miles to post for purchases through the AA portal? I am 0/4 of my last four transactions, and each time I have to request the miles. I know I’m doing it correctly because I’ve used the portal many times. It just seems like the lat 6 months they are just hoping you don’t mind not getting the points.

  2. ALWAYS make sure to check that your online shopping portal credits you with miles. I have found that four shopping visits were not credited recently or reversed because I used a “coupon”. For the ones that were valid, it took over a month for customer service to credit my miles & when they did, I didn’t receive the previous bonus because it was not within the time period.
