American Airlines Elite Fast Track 2015

American Airlines Elite Fast Track 2015

Update: American seems to have taken down the registration page. There is a cached version that may or may not work. Check the comments for more information.

Back in 2013, I received AAdvantage Platinum status for booking one single ticket to Paraguay. The reason I was able to make this happen is because I registered for an AAdvantage Fast Track promotion. It turned out that the specific promotion I registered for was targeted, however American honored the fast track for those who registered before they pulled the page.

So fast forward to 2014 and my Platinum status gained through that challenge was set to expire soon, so I decided to match it to Alaska and then eventually match my Alaska status to Alitalia. In other words that one flight has netted me at least 4 years of airline elite status.

A New Elite Fast Track Opportunity

It seems American Airlines has a public offer page for yet another elite fast track. Much like the one I participated in, anyone can register. (That doesn’t mean everyone is eligible.) Here are the terms:

This is an exclusive offer only for select AAdvantage members who receive this message from LinkedIn and who do not hold AAdvantage Gold, Platinum or Executive Platinum status as of September 14, 2015. AAdvantage elite status members are not eligible for this offer.

Before I go any further, this promotion may only be for people who were targeted on LinkedIn, but the page allows anyone to register. The way I see it, why not try for yourself if you have upcoming flights or are looking to join the ranks of American Airline elites? Keep in mind that it may not be honored, but it doesn’t hurt to try if you plan to actually participate.

Fast Track Details

The fast track promotion is fairly simple. To gain status, you must earn a certain number of EQPs or elite qualifying points. EQPs are earned based on the rate, with discount economy fares only earning 50% of the miles flown. More expensive fares can earn up to 150%, so it is important to pay attention to how many EQPs the fare will earn. Here is what is needed to reach each tier.:

Executive Platinum 100,000  25,000
Platinum 50,000  9,000
Gold 25,000  5,000

As you can see, you can earn Gold status with as little as a simple transcon. A longer flight could easily earn Platinum status. Executive Platinum might be a little harder to obtain, but for some this will be a great deal since status earned through this promotion is good February 28, 2017. You can find a list of the benefits of each tier here.

Conclusion

Since I have some upcoming paid flights on American and since I can use my ThankYou points at a value of 1.6 cents each on the airline thanks to my Citi Prestige, I went ahead and registered. There is of course no guarantee that I will be accepted, however I know I will participate and thus it can’t hurt to try. You can register here.

  1. Hi Shawn

New to this and trying to see if I can qualify but how can I tell which flights can potentially earn me Gold or Platinum status? Flying from BOS, how can I route my flights to make it or better still what example of flights can I make to earn that many EQMs?

Planning a few trips for work and play and seeing how I can use that to my advantage

    Thanks

  2. The page you requested no longer exists or has expired. Please visit AA.com to view current AA news and info.

    🙁

How do you think they “targeted” you?

  3. I’d like to understand what the LinkedIn connection might be. If we missed it this time, we *might* be able to get it the next time around….

    Anyone have any good ideas?

  4. I signed up for this program, and never received an email confirmation from AA. So, I called today to ask about it. The response I got is that this promo was targeted to specific AAdvantage members, and only they are eligible. So even though I successfully enrolled through the website, I’m not eligible.
    Bummer!

    • So I called AA too… at first they had no idea ofthe promo, then she put me on long hold and then found the promo, She said it needed to be signed up by 4th Sept, Then I was told I was targeted, so as long as I signed up i would be eligible. I just put a ticket from DFW -KUL on hold giving me 19445 eqm. still not sure if i should pull the tigger. Also she said it takes 5 business days for the email to confirm of the promotion.

  5. I signed up on the original landing page. I never received an email and now that we are in the promotion period, I am not seeing anything identifiable in my account that leads me to believe I have been granted the promotion. I am assuming this means I am out of luck. Does anyone have additional insight? Thanks.

      • Thanks, adnan. I did call AAdvantage and they did confirm that the promotion is on my account. I am going to move from flights from United to AA to take advantage of this promotion, but there is still something somewhat disconcerting about not having anything reflected in my own online account and no email confirmation. If something goes wrong, I am concerned that they just say “sorry, you weren’t targeted.”
