Update: Top Cashback has added a banner saying this deal is for one day only! They are only paying 1.5% until midnight EST! Who knows if this is marketing speak or if this will indeed only be available for one day. I would guess we will see cashback return to more portals over the next few days, but who knows.

American Express Gift Cards Have Returned To The Top Cashback Portal

The rumors are true. American Express gift cards are now paying 1.5% cashback at the Top Cashback portal. I mentioned last night that rumors were swirling about their return and it turns out that the rumors proved to be true.

As of the time of this writing I checked several of the other portals including BeFrugal & Upromise and they are not showing cashback for American Express gift cards. Top Cashback is the only portal I can find that is offering cashback at this time.

Frequent Miler has a great post with everything you need to know about buying and using these gift cards. Keep in mind it is a little outdated, but most everything is still valid. (The portal information is not accurate and Amazon Payments is listed as a cash out method but that is ending on October 13.)

  1. when used online do these act as credit or debit cards? Looking to liquidate via paying taxes or tuition…the associated fees for credit vs debit are significant as you are aware.

    • You can sign up for a 90 day trial of their free shipping program. (One time per Amex account.) Other than that there is no way since using coupon codes invalidates cashback.
