Big Savings on Hilton & Hampton Inn Stays

One of the best ways to save money is to combine offers and deals together. A 20% off offer is nice, but what about two of them? Yesterday American Express released a new offer for Hilton Hotels & Resorts. That offer got me thinking about stacking opportunities. Let’s take a look.

The Hilton Offer

Get a one-time $60 statement credit by using your connected Card to spend $300+ on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with Hilton Hotels & Resorts from 1/6/16 to 4/11/16.

Terms

  • Offer only valid at Hilton Hotels & Resorts in the US & US territories.
  • Excludes Waldorf Astoria™ Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts™, Canopy by Hilton™, Curio – A Collection by Hilton™, DoubleTree by Hilton™, Embassy Suites by Hilton™, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hampton by Hilton™, Homewood Suites by Hilton™, Home2 Suites by Hilton™ and Hilton Grand Vacations™.
  • Reservations must be made online at hilton.com, via the HHonors App or by calling 1-800-445-8667.
  • Offer valid only on room rate and room charges. Offer not valid for stays that are paid for before or after the promotion start and end dates.
  • Excludes gift card purchases.

You can find the full terms here.

How to Load

You can load this offer to your account on the American Express website or via Twitter by tweeting #AmexHilton from a linked account. It may be available via other social media channels as well.

Combining Hotel & Hilton Offer

The other day I covered targeted Amex Offers for hotel stays. I personally received an offer for a $50 credit on a $250+ hotel stay (expires 3/31) so I’ll break that down here. If I stay at a Hilton and use a card linked to both the Hilton & Hotel Amex Offers then this is what the math looks like:

  • Cost of hotel: $300
  • Hilton Offer: -$60
  • Hotels Offer: -$50
  • Total Cost: $190
  • Total Savings %:  36.67%

That is a pretty decent savings.

Combining Hotel & Hampton Inn Offer

After seeing these offers, I remembered that there is still an offer out there that some of you may have linked to your accounts. It is a similar offer to the Hilton one, however it gives a $35 statement credit for a $175+ stay at Hampton Inn. (This expires 1/18/16 so there isn’t much time.) You can still load it by tweeting #AmexHampton. (Terms here.)

You can combine the $50 off $250 offer mentioned above with the Hampton offer for a 34% savings on a $250 stay, or if you received the $25 off $100 version of the hotel offer, here is how the math works:

  • Cost of hotel: $175
  • Hampton Inn Offer: $-35
  • Hotels Offer: -$25
  • Total Cost: $110
  • Total Savings %: 37.14%

Of course the ability to do this depends on which targeted hotel offer you have (if you even have one), but I suspect that many readers have a version of the offer.

Purchasing Gift Cards

I know a lot of you would like to purchase gift cards to lock in your savings for future stays. Unfortunately gift card purchases are excluded in the terms of both the Hampton Inn and Hilton offers. This doesn’t mean they won’t work anyway if you buy them at the front desk, but I haven’t personally tested it out and cannot speak to that. If you are going to try, making a test purchase would probably be a good idea.

Expensive Stays?

Remember on stays that go over the threshold for the Amex Offers, you could split the transaction at the front desk and try to take advantage of the offers again. For example if you have a $600 stay you could try to use two cards with the offers to pay to keep your discount percentage the same. If you have a stay slightly over $300, you could pay with the Amex card for the first $300 and then use whichever other card you have to earn the maximum amount of rewards on the rest.

Conclusion

Any time you can save over 1/3 of the cost of a hotel stay, it is time to look a little closer. For many who recently got Hilton Diamond status, their hotels may now be more attractive for potential stays. I do wish that gift cards were able to be purchased, but either way I think this is a solid deal for some. Of course, it is always important to shop around and determine whether booking direct or using a third party makes more sense.
