I Have a Serious Case of the Amex Offers Blues

The Amex Offers Blues

Have you ever been left out of a great deal? Do you lose sleep at night knowing that others are saving $25 off a purchase of $100 or more while you are paying full price? Are you overcome with a sudden feeling that the world isn’t fair? Then you must have the Amex Offers blues.

Thankfully you are not alone. Miles & points enthusiasts the world over have had one form of this disease or another. Sometimes it is the “Missed Out on that Crazy Mistake Airfare Blues” or “I Was One Day Too Late for that Insane Status Match Blues”.  I used to have the, “I Don’t Have the Citi Forward 5X Blues”, but now that Citi has devalued that card I suddenly feel better.

In case you don’t know what I am talking about, yesterday I covered a pretty amazing targeted Amex Offer for Staples. When I wrote the post I thought that the offer had to be HIGHLY targeted, but perhaps I was wrong. While I didn’t have it on any of my (undisclosed number of) cards many of you had it on all of them. Greg the Frequent Miler was 18/18. Pardon me a moment while I go sob in the corner.

Why Was I Left Out

I can of course only speculate as to why none of my cards were targeted for this offer, but I have one pretty reasonable theory. I have had a few Staples Amex Offers before. In fact, back in November there was an untargeted Staples Amex Offer that I managed to load to all of my cards. It was only available for a few hours, but I was lucky enough to see it.

Which brings me to my main point here. While I may be sad to be left out of the fun, I have had fun before. Oh have I had fun. I think we all are probably in a similar boat. We love to jump on deals and to “win”. Of course, that never happens all of the time. Sometimes we aren’t targeted and sometimes life gets in the way and we don’t see the deal on time.

I’m Happy For You

In closing, I am happy for you guys with your 25% off eBay gift cards and your free money via Visa gift cards. Sincerely I hope you got the offer on all of your cards, because it is pretty amazing. If I had 1 or 18 of the offers then I would probably buy eBay gift cards and perhaps save a few offers to jump on a good Staples deal. But I don’t.

Don’t feel sorry for me though. Today I’m hanging out in a hotel right on Ft. Lauderdale beach with my wife and very happy (despite the photo above) infant daughter. I think that will cure my blues pretty quickly.  How do you deal with missing out on a great deal? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Funny post and I 100% share the same sentiments as you.

In the past did Greg add Staples offers (via Twitter or otherwise) AND cash in on them all? I’d think that many of those not getting these offers already cashed in but if he did in fact redeem them previously I don’t know what else to think.

  2. Keep checking your account. I thought I was left out too, but about the 4th time I checked my account I had the offer there.

  3. This is the FIRST TIME I have gotten the Amex offers that you travel hackers are talking about, so I actually had quit paying attention. Lucky for me, I got this one on 5 cards!

    • Many of the offers you’re probably talking about were only available for a few hours when most people were sleeping and most didn’t get in on these deals, including “travel hackers.” I’m just lucky that I was able to add these offers in the past because I happened to be up late at night trying to get things done after putting my now toddler down to bed.

  4. Man, I had the offer on my 2 biz and 2 personal accounts. Opened four tabs, and I could only get it to load on a single personal (plat) and business (gold) card. Have you had this experience?

  5. If it makes you feel better, I did not receive the offer either. I believe it is because I have the 5% of $100 Staples offer loaded on my cards already.

However, my husband did receive the offer on all of his cards so all is not lost.
