Avios Devaluation Analysis Roundup

It has been over three years since British Airways rolled out their distance based award chart. Most people I know secretly worried about when the company would change the incredibly generous 4,500 and 7,500 Avios redemptions. Almost no one assumed that they would stick around.

Those redemptions were the ones that were left unchanged yesterday in the Avios devaluation. Some bloggers though, took the changes as an overall negative while others like me saw it as a positive for people who just redeem and don’t pay to fly on British Airways.

In this hobby like in life, I believe it is good to hear the opinions of others who don’t necessarily agree with you. It is also a great idea for beginners to get a complete picture of what is going on before they begin to form their own opinions.

In that spirit, lets take a look at some of the best posts about the Avios devaluation. These post reflect a wide range of opinions on the subject.

Travel Summary – British Airways Avios Devaluaiton as of 4/28/15 – This blogger travels in premium cabins quite a bit and isn’t happy with the news. Most long-haul premium cabin OneWorld travel has always seemed to be overpriced, but I guess he has found routes that work well. I would love to see him elaborate on which of his past redemptions have gone up in price.

  1. As always, the voice of reason, analysis, and willingness to explore other angles. Well done. I am happy that hopefully this devaluation means that the short-haul partner redemptions are safe for a decent period of time (assumes that BA won’t make any other changes for a while). Or at least I hope so, since i transferred a bunch of AMEX points yesterday. 🙂

  2. Thanks for a rational and clear review. Too many BArea bloggers dump quick reviews with sensational headlines on here without solid research.
