My rather modest balance of Avios has returned!

Avios Accounts Restored

Last week I reported that some British Airways Executive Club accounts had been hacked. In an attempt to safeguard Avios, the company locked people out of their accounts and zeroed out the balances.

Thankfully it seems that British Airways has now restored both the access and the Avios to all of the accounts affected. You should once again be able to not only see your Avios, but you should also be able to book awards online like normal.

How to Regain Access

You must reset your password if your login information has been compromised.

If you try to login to your Avios account, you may get a message that your password is bad or even that the system doesn’t recognize your membership number. If you get this message then don’t worry. Simply click the “Forgotten Pin/Password” link on the login page and British Airways will email you a link to reset your password. Once complete, you should have access to your account.

Conclusion

I find it quite funny that all of this has happened and British Airways didn’t write to me once in regards to what was going on. Last week I mentioned that I had faith that it would all be fixed and I am glad I was right. Now it is time to book some cheap awards before their upcoming devaluation on April 28, 2015.

  1. On the bright side from all this happening, the points that got depleted and reinstated counted as ‘activity’ so the expiration of all our points got deferred til 2018!

  2. How long did it take for the email to arrive? I thought it would be near-instant, but it’s been almost 2 hours. Thanks.
