Here are a couple of newsworthy tidbits for this Monday morning.
Citi ThankYou Premier 50k Offer
The Citi ThankYou Premier has recently undergone some changes to its bonus categories and annual fee. It seems along with those changes the bank has improved the bonus for the card as well. Previously the 50k bonus was split over 2 years (20k in year 1 and 30k in year 2).
New Citi ThankYou Premier Earning Structure:
- 3X ThankYou Points on Travel including Gas
- 2X ThankYou Points on Dining Out and Entertainment
- 1X ThankYou Points on Other Purchases
Fortunately Citi seems to have done away with the split bonus in lieu of a full 50,000 ThankYou points after $3k in spending during the first three months. I recently got this card and believe this 50,000 point bonus is very attractive.
This offer is publicly available through all normal channels including directly on the Citi website.

8x Alaska Miles at Staples (Up to 13x with Chase Ink)
The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan shopping portal is currently paying 8x for purchases at Staples. I don’t believe I have ever seen a mileage portal payout quite this high for Staples and Alaska miles are very valuable because of their partners. There is no end date listed for this offer, but my guess is it’s one day only.
Staples is also offering $30 off a $150 or more purchase when using Visa Checkout, although it is restricted to normal priced items only which is sort of a bummer. Don’t forget to use your Chase Ink card as well to earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points!
I am currently looking for items to purchase with the Staples gift cards I got at 40% off. Hopefully I can find something that is easy enough to sell at a profit/minimal loss so I can liquidate those cards and earn a nice chunk of Alaska miles.
In Store Possible Hack: Staples also has a coupon for $100 off any iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 3 in-store. Their in-store prices are higher than their website prices. In the past some people have had success getting the store to match the lower website price before applying the coupon. (Some people are denied as well.) You can find the coupon here.
