I really used to love ordering the rubber ducky cards from GiftCardMall.

GiftCardMall Visas Increased Portal Cashback

A couple of years ago I had a great relationship with GiftCardMall. They used to pay through portals for Visa gift cards and even let me pay with American Express gift cards! It was an amazing deal and one that unfortunately did not last.

For awhile GiftCardMall removed Visa gift cards from portals, but they did eventually return earlier this year at .5%. It wasn’t the best deal, but you could purchase $500 personalized cards for a reasonable price after the portal cashback and it had the added benefit of all being done from the benefit of your home.

Then it all ended. GiftCardMall changed their website and did away with $500 cards. (Although there is a backdoor link that still works to get $500 cards.) With the new website the highest denomination is $250 at a cost of $5.95. They do offer free shipping, but the math is definitely no longer very pretty.

.75% Cash Back Today Only

Earlier Simply Best Coupons sent me a note that Visa Gift cards from GiftCardMall are paying .75% today. Their site says that the cashback earned will be manually adjusted tomorrow, so my guess is this is a one day only special. Unfortunately it isn’t a good one. Let’s take a look.

  • 2 X $250 cards: $511.90
  • – .75% cashback earned: $3.84
  • Final cost: $508.06

Um. Thanks but no thanks.

Conclusion

While it is nice to see some Visa gift card portal action, unfortunately they will have to do a lot better than .75% if they are going to stick with their $250 maximum denominations. Someone once told me they got the backdoor link to work with a portal, but that is hardly guaranteed and there are still better deals out there. Even so, I’ll always have a fond place in my heart for GiftCardMall rubber ducky Visas!

  1. Are their any “Kates” left in Vegas that still allow Visa gift card loads to Serve? Went to Walmart in Las Vegas last night to make sure their Money Center is still functioning before I buy another load of Visa gift cards. Sure enough, it’s gone. I knew this day would come. Since it seems that the Credit card>gift card>Serve account method of gathering miles is “sun setting”, do you have any suggestions for a new strategy? (I’m not one for going from store to store searching for a cashier that will allow me to buy money orders with gift cards)

  2. I know the answer is implied, but do they no longer let you pay with Amex gift cards? I have $1,000 in GC burning a whole in my pocket…

I know I could try myself, but last time I tried GCM with a legit cc, they cancelled my order the next day for no good reason, so I have much faith in the process to start with.
