Maximizing
This is a great offer if you have upcoming stays at any of these properties, but it also has the potential to work on gift cards. Past hotel Amex Offers have worked on gift cards if you purchase them at the front desk, however there is no guarantee that will work with this offer. As noted above, gift cards are technically excluded from the terms.
Conclusion
While this isn’t a blockbuster Amex Offer like yesterday’s Neiman Marcus deal, it is a good deal for people who frequent those two brands. Hopefully the gift card option will work as well so you can lock in a 20% discount at other Hilton properties too.

Following, because we have to be on the road while our house is being repaired, but it will be after the dates of this offer and I’d love to get a gift card.

Yea I’m curious to know which Hiltons sell gift cards at the front. I just called a few around and they all said no.

Using your suggestion regarding a gift card purchase; if you purchase them at the front desk. Wouldn’t you be required to make a reservation directly with one of the hotels through the app or using the mentioned websites?
So, maybe you can walk in and do this…if I read the terms correctly (you must use your connected Card to spend a total of $175 or more on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with Hampton by Hilton™ or Hilton Garden Inn® from 1/17/17 to 3/17/17) but you have no ‘room’ however maybe that is the crack through which this falls?
