Hilton HHonors Status Match Update

Late last year Hilton HHonors offered a status match where you could submit proof of elite status with a competing chain and they would match that status through March, 2017. That was a great offer and I along with many of you decided to take advantage of Hilton’s generosity.

That status match eventually went away, but Hilton brought it back a few weeks ago with a new requirement that you have to show proof of at least one stay. There was one other difference too. This time the match page had conflicting information. In one spot it said the matched status would last through 2017, while in another it said 2018. Thankfully I have good news. Hilton has updated the match page and has confirmed the new status will be good through March, 2018!

Re-Matching Status

A lot of people have been asking me if they can “re-match” their status. In other words, if you got the status match through 2017 a few months ago, can you re-submit the match to extend that status through 2018? Well, while I can’t officially say yes, it worked for me!

Shortly after this new 2018 match came out, I submitted proof of my Hyatt Diamond status and recent stays. While I have not received an email from Hilton, today I contacted their Twitter team to ask them to check the expiration date of my status. This is what they said:

Thank you for your inquiry. Your Diamond tier status is valid through March 2018. Have a great day!

While I can’t guarantee they will do this for everyone (rules tend to change for these sorts of things), it does seem you can re-match your status.

How to Submit A Hilton HHonors Match

Submitting a Hilton HHonors status match is easy. Simply head over to the Hilton HHonors status match website and fill out your name, email address, HHonors number and which loyalty program you are matching from. They will also have you upload proof of elite status and a recent stay with the competing chain. According to the site, this is what you need:

Acceptable forms of status validation include a screenshot of your current account status or your membership card. Acceptable forms of stay validation include a screenshot of your previous reservations or hotel receipt, redacting any personal information other than your name and membership number.

Conclusion

I am really excited that I now have top-tier Hilton HHonors status for two full years. While I still haven’t had the chance to enjoy this new status, I will soon enough and thanks to all of the great Hilton card offers lately, I have a ton of points to use for redemptions.

  1. I sent in my SPG Gold in January and got matched to Hilton Gold until March 2017. Last week I sent in my IHG Platinum with a recent stay at HIX and got matched to DIAMOND until March 2018. I’m pleasantly surprised! Thanks Hilton!

  2. Requested a rematch weeks ago (first day this offer posted) and have heard nothing, nada! I’ll try emailing again I guess.

    • The first link offered here they never responded to. The new link that was posted was responded to within 5 days. That’s when I got a canned denial saying one match per lifetime.

  3. Where can we check the expiration date on our HHonors account? I’ve looked and looked and can’t find. I sent in my match request last week (it would be my second match request, since I already got matched late last year), but I’d rather find the expiration date myself, instead of contacting the Twitter team. I can’t believe they wouldn’t include it under one’s account information…?

    • No man! Did you bust out the DYKWIA card?! Dont give up dude. Look at all these people getting it. Its like a hottie saying “No” to dating you. Total BS. Just playing hard to get… You cant give up on the first try. HUCB.

  4. A few months back with the first promotion I was matched to Diamond from Hyatt Platinum. I was wondering if anyone has tried to rematch from the same status. I guess it’s worth a shot…

  5. Thanks, Shawn!! I have a 4-night Hyatt stay starting on Sunday. I got both the Hyatt and Hilton Diamond statuses last year. I’d love to extend my Hilton Diamond status another year.

  6. Thanks Shawn! Filled out the match request form on March 30th and tweeted them today to check. It worked out perfectly as last year got matched Hyatt Diamond from Hilton Gold, then went for Hilton Diamond from Hyatt Diamond, and now extended Hilton Diamond to 2018. The good thing is that I really need both for work travel this year so am quite pleased!

  7. […] If you previously matched to Hilton HHonors status during their promotion late last year and received status through 2017, you may be able to get that extended by re-matching. (Despite what the terms say.) I was able to request a new match and confirm that they extended my Hilton HHonors Diamond status through 2018. You can find more info on the re-match at Miles to Memories. […]

  8. Hey Shawn, I sent in a match request when you first posted about this a few weeks ago, figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. I was matched back in December from Marriott platinum already and so I called to check my expiration and they matched me through March 2018 as well. So the match on top of a match definitely works.

    • Just to note, I was originally matched from Marriott with expiration March 2017. I submitted a new match request from Marriott and now expiration is March 2018.

  9. Nice man! Glad you got matched for 2 damn years! Dude! Crazy! Now I know to avoid Hilton until 2018 because everyone would be busting out their DYKWIA Diamond Status and force me to stay in the basement. Geez!

    • You may have a point: I recently had 2 stays as a Diamond, there was no upgrade on either stay, and on the 2nd one I didn’t even get the 2 bottles of water. Too many Diamonds!

      • Man. Really!? Not surprised. Thank you for the data point. What a shame. The flood gates have opened and its all Shawns fault.. haha..

  10. I am diamond at Hyatt and sent in the screenshot of my account and my recent paid stay just as instructed. They emailed me back yesterday saying they “couldn’t process my application” and that I instead had to specifically send a screenshot or photo of my membership card and the email of my latest account summary, but I could just reply to their email rather than going through the site again. I did both, just as instructed again, so we’ll see what happens.

But I would advise people to just go ahead and send in the membership card to save some time.

  11. I have a clarifying question related to the above post.

Bottom line: Are HHonors Status Matches once-in-a-lifetime, or can you do a status match, and then when it expires in a few years do another status match (assuming you don’t continue to qualify?).

Above alludes to it, but sounds more like an “adjustment” to current status match than confirming it’s not a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I am in a role that currently travels quite a bit so Diamond HHonors is a nice convenience – but if it’s once-in-a-lifetime I’d rather keep the match in my back-pocket for the future when I may not travel enough to maintain status in other programs (in which case I would “match” my Marriott Platinum as it expires and ride out Diamond with HHonors for an extra 1.5 years).

    • Well this match isn’t always offered or at least it hasn’t been. It was available briefly last year and then has been brought back. Yes it is supposed to be once per lifetime so I can’t guarantee what will happen, but there is also no guarantee that they will even have a match when you are ready.

  12. I also submitted my Hyatt Diamond status for an “extension” but they never emailed me with any status updates. I just tweeted HHonors as well, hopefully I got it til 2018 as well!

  13. A bit confused here. If I am matching from Hyatt Diamond, do I need to show proof of stay with Hyatt or another chain like Starwood?

    Thanks
    R
