Hyatt Points and Cash Trick

Hyatt Points and Cash Trick

As many of you know I love the Hyatt Gold Passport program. One of the ways I am able to qualify for Diamond status is through Points + Cash bookings. My main strategy is to use points to offset my cash fee and then buy discounted gift cards for 20-30% off face value for the rest. It works and I love it.

Before the middle of last year Hyatt made it very difficult to see if Points + Cash space was available. Until recently it didn’t show up online and the only way to know if P+C was available was to call in to Hyatt which was a pain. Fortunately Hyatt did add those rates to their website recently, but you still have to click each individual hotel to see availability. Well, you don’t even need to do that anymore.

The Trick

Will Run for Miles found how to search for points + cash availability across multiple properties at once and it is a simple solution. Use the corporate code 51440. Let’s take a look at Los Angeles.

As you can see I input the code and sorted by price to bring the lower prices to the top. (Note: You may not want to sort by price if you are looking at a very specific area in a city.) As a reminder, you want to be looking for the following price tiers for points + cash.

In the above example, all three properties have points + cash availability. The Andaz and Huntington Beach properties are category 5 and the $125 rate corresponds to that category. The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach is a category 3. If I click through, it does indeed have the award space.

I checked this trick with several different cities and hotels and it worked every time. This will save a lot of time because you can now look at a city and determine which properties have points + cash availability. As someone who tries to book these rates exclusively, this is a HUGE time saver.

Recap

To find points + cash availability across multiple properties in the same city:

  • Input your destination and dates on Hyatt.com
  • Enter 51440 in the “Corporate or Group Code” box.
  • Sort the results by price (or however you want) and look for hotels with prices that correspond to the points + cash chart.

Enjoy and thanks again to Will Run for Miles for discovering this awesome trick!

  1. I was excited about it as well but it did not work at any of the properties in Boston that I checked on a busy weekend. It showed the properties but then told me on each one that the rate was not available. Maybe it is location specific?

    • Maybe there’s no points and cash stays on the busy weekend you are enquiring about. Did you try searching for a not so busy weekend to see if you found availability?

  2. Another “Trick” for when a hotel forces you to book multiple days in order to book an award night. Book the required days, then call hyatt to cancel days not needed. Worked for me at hyatt regency maui.

  3. Thanks for the HT/Mention.

I know you and others are calling this a Trick, but I just see it as a useful tool that we didn’t know about before.

I should note that there’s still plenty of wonkyness with the Hyatt search engine.

As to the comment above by Danny – I agree – but realize that this works primarily for those with high status being serviced by the diamond or platinum line.

  4. Worked like a charm for Newport Beach 2 months from now. Thanks! No availability for San Francisco area next month but that is common with call to Gold Passport within 30 days.
