Kohl's Personal Appliance Sale

Kohl’s Personal Appliance Sale

It seems like every Fall Kohl’s has a sale and rebate on personal appliances.  This year they have selected Toastmaster appliances. With stacking and ninja tricks it is possible to get these practically free.

Items on Sale

The following items are on sale for $16.99 (regular price $29.99) and come with a $12 rebate:

REBATE FORM HERE

  • Toastmaster Mini Chop
  • Toastmaster 2 Slice Toaster
  • Toastmaster Hand Mixer
  • Toastmaster 1.5 Quart Slow Cooker
  • Toastmaster 15 oz Mini Blender
  • Toastmaster 5 Cup Coffee Maker
  • Toastmaster Electric Can Opener
  • Toastmaster 20 oz Slow Cooker (Sold Out)
  • Toastmaster Electric Knife

How I Will Use Stacking and Ninja Tricks to get the Cost Down to Free

If you still have the September $10 in free Kohl’s cash from Discover Deals you can use that as well to improve these numbers.  They expire on 9/27/17 so this is good timing.  I unfortunately used mine on some clothes for the kids :).  If you are a first time Kohl’s App user you can also get $10 in Yes2You rewards for downloading and using the app.

The key is to purchase these items in groups of 6, or one group of 7 if you have the Discover Kohl’s cash to make the purchase over $100.   The total for 6 is $101.94 plus tax which is just enough to get $20 in Kohl’s cash plus $5 in Yes2You rewards. I was also offered $5 in Kohl’s cash to pick up the hand mixer in store!  I was still able to ship the rest.

When you go to purchase the appliances be sure you use a shopping portal. According to cashbackmonitor the top paying portal is the Chase Freedom portal at 4 UR per dollar.  UPromise is at 5% cashback but I value 4 UR more than 5% cash back.

I will purchase a $100 gift card from CardCash at a 7.37% discount as well.  I will pay for it with my Chase Ink Plus, via paypal, to get 5x UR on the purchase too.  Chase Ink Cash would also earn 5x UR points.

Here is how the numbers look:

Kohl's Personal Appliance Sale

The sales tax will vary by state but this gives you an idea of what you can do.  This all assumes you can use the Kohl’s cash and Yes2You rewards.  I look at this as getting $30 in Kohl’s spend for $19.74 or at 66% off.  If you want to take the points out of the equation 6 appliances will cost you $28.69 and you will get $30 in Kohl’s merchandise (a 4% discount).

Update

Nateo G., a member in our MilestoMemories Facebook group, alerted us to a 15% discount code SMS425.  Join our group if you are not a member already to get tips and deals like this!

If you use the discount then the Freedom portal will probably not track.  I have always had good luck with Ebates tracking when using a coupon code (currently offering 3%).  And the 15% outweighs 4 UR points so I would go that route.

What About the Appliances

Now you have 6 personal appliances (or 12, 24, 36 etc) and you may be wondering what you should do with them.  You can keep them for personal use, give them as gifts, donate them to a shelter, church, school etc., or you can sell them.  In the past I have sold them on Craigslist or Facebook Local for $8-10 an appliance, sometimes selling multiple to one person.  They usually go pretty quickly and some items will sell better than others. Breakfast griddles have sold well in the past.  If you donate them make sure to write them off on your taxes.

Conclusion

While not a groundbreaking deal I always have fun with these.  You are able to combine all of the rebates into one submission so you only get one visa gift card.  The rebates usually ship out 4-6 weeks after you mail them out.  In the past I was able to use Kohl’s coupon codes as well which have made these deals even better. You may want to wait a few days to see if one appears on is noted above.

This is definitely not for everyone and it will probably be too low of a return for most people.  Everyone has to make their own decisions when it comes to value of your time. Even if you decide not to pursue these this at least gives you an idea of what is possible with Kohl’s purchases.

  1. Just bought 14. I made $13 just for the purchase, and will sell/donate the products. The knife, toaster, and mini-crockpot seem like the best quality, so I just bought them. Question: what’s the best way to use Kohl’s Cash, if I don’t need anything from Kohl’s?

    • Buy something to resell. They sell vacuums, electronics, toys etc. You should be able to find something. Or use it to buy gifts to give away at a later date.

  2. Be aware that the Visa rebate GCs have an expiration date of 6 months. Lost track of one for $480 in our safe, tried to use 2 months beyond the expiration date, no dice. The funds are still there, you just have no access to them. They refused to reissue. It’ll take about 13 years before the fees are drained to zero by the monthly fees. Painful lesson learned….

    • Thanks for the info RG. Did you try to CFPB them or something? With all of the gift card laws that have come out recently I can’t imagine them being able to get away with this.

      • RG’s was a good (although tough) lesson. Great teaching moment.

If the GCs have a stated expiration date of six months, why on earth do you have issue with them enforcing it? “CFPB them”? “Get away with this”?

Do you honestly believe the government should protect the consumer from enforcement of a published expiration date? C’mon. How much debt do you guys want to inherit?

If stated in advance, a deal is a deal, isn’t it?

        • They made laws that say gift cards (3rd party) can not be auto drained by the companies. I don’t think this is much different. When you buy VGC’s at the store do they have a 6 month expiration dates? Nope. It seems punitive to me.

          • I’m afraid they have indeed made a law. This is a promo gift card, like the Bonefish “bonus card with purchased card” I was unable to use in time. It’s different from purchased gift cards.

            https://www.giftcards.com/gcgf/giftcards-expire (see #4)

“Prepaid phone cards, promotional gift cards, loyalty cards and paper gift certificates are not covered by these rules. If you receive a gift card without paying for it (e.g. cable company sends you a free gift card as a thank you for switching services), pay close attention to the terms because those gift cards can (and often do) expire very quickly. If you are worried you’ll forget to use the card, then put it in your wallet next to the debit or credit card you use most often. The next time you go to the store, pay with the promotional gift card. Continue to do so until the balance is depleted.”

          • While it is a rebate card I think that having a 6 month expiration date on it is overly punitive. That is just me. They are hoping for breakage to make this more profitable for themselves.

They already make it so you have to mail everything in instead of submitting it online like most others. That should bring them enough breakage imo.

          • On this you and I are in total agreement.

That’s why I believe you and I can/should vote with our feet. My issue was with your suggesting that the government should be involved.

  3. How do you get the rebate from the Freedom portal if you’re using the Kohl’s gift card you purchased with your Ink card to pay for the order? Or am I missing something here? Thanks for the help.

    • You can use other forms of payment when going through the Chase UR portal. I have never had an issue with it tracking as long as the items were not already in my cart. If they don’t track Chase is unlikely to help you if not paid with the Freedom card though. You could use UPromise at 5% if you don’t think it is worth the risk. Or Ebates at 3%.

      • Not enough to worry much about either way on this, but that’s definitely good to know if Chase pays out on the entire charge regardless of how much of the charge is put on their card. Will be checking to see how that works out. Thanks again!

  4. my understanding is that Kohls Cash reduces the “amount spent”.

You think you spent $101.94 to trigger 2 x $10 Kohls Cash.

According to Kohls, you only spent $71.94, since $30 of it was Kohls Cash or coupons.

Just something to be aware of

    • Good catch – they have never had a restriction in the past – they must have caught on. I will update the post!

      • I believe the limit is: 5 per product per household
T&C: Limit 5 rebates per product per household.

This should mean that you can do 5 of each of the appliances.

      • It says “5 rebates PER PRODUCT per household.” So you could technically still get 60 rebates if you wanted. Or am I reading that wrong?

        • It is 5 per product per household. There are 8 products still in stock and you can get 5 of each so 40 total.
