Posts & Info That Caught My Eye

Starwood/Marriott Merger Off For Now

miles to memories recap

This is definitely good news for those who were worried that Marriott was going to devalue the SPG program. With that said, Marriott still has time to up their offer, so we will just have to see what they do. Here is a link to Reuters who does a good job of explaining exactly what happened today.

Increased Offers for Amex Blue Cash Cards

miles to memories recap

American Express has increased the offers on the Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express and the Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express. Well, they sort of increased them. The normal offers of $100 after $1K spend (Everyday) and $150 after $1K spend (Preferred) remain in tact, however they have added another layer to the offer.

Here is the additional bonus as they describe it:

Apply by 06/15/2016 to get 10% back when you use the Card at US Wireless Telephone Service Providers in 2016, up to $200.

I wouldn’t quite value this new benefit as $200, because first you need to spend a total of $2,000 in 2016 in that category and 2nd, my Chase Ink Plus earns 5X Ultimate Rewards for the same purchases. Still, these cards are good grocery store cards for many so this new 10% bonus may be attractive for some.

A Successful Product Change to the Chase Freedom Unlimited + A Few Things I Learned Doing It

It’s good to see the first sets of people converting to this card. I shared my reader’s experience doing the same last week, but the $5K minimum credit line seems to be new information. I personally am waiting to max out the grocery store category in early April on one of my Freedoms before I convert it to Freedom Unlimited.

Great Deals

  • As a reminder, many of the gas and other eBay gift card deals are still going. The Sears $100 for $85 deal in particular may still be of interest. We don’t normally see increased eBay Bucks promos on the weekend, so I personally would jump if I hadn’t already. Remember purchases from PayPal Digital Gifts earn 5X and don’t forget to use a portal.

Have a great evening!

  1. Shawn, those gas cards still have over 10k left, by my worry is the sale might end before next week’s eBay bucks promo. Do you know if the sale duration is listed anywhere? I couldn’t find that info.

    • Good catch. I would wait on the gas cards, but I don’t believe the Sears cards will stick around, but of course no one knows for sure. I don’t think there is a way to see when a listing expires. SVM doesn’t normally leave their listings up indefinitely, but they have been having more sales lately so it is hard to predict.
