Things That Caught My Eye

What New Rules Mean for Travel to Cuba

The United States loosened up travel restrictions to Cuba once again today. While open tourism still isn’t allowed, most people should qualify under the 12 reasons and it is now possible to bring your family with you too. Oh and Americans can even bring back up to $100 in cigars! Woohoo!

Vegas experiences first taste of Uber ‘surge’ pricing

Uber’s first weekend in Vegas wasn’t all champagne and roses. It will be interesting to see how surge pricing works in a city where some areas may see surges every single day of the week. Either way, $44 for 3.8 miles or $101 for 11.5 miles seems awfully ridiculous! During surges it seems taxis may not be so bad after all. (If you can get one of course!)

Do Americans Know How Much They Owe?

While most Americans know how much mortgage and installment debt they have, a recent report shows that they underestimate their credit card debt by as much as 40% and their student loan debt by about 25%. Hopefully as a reader of this site you can accurately say what your credit card debt is. It should be $0.

Citi Launches Virgin America as a ThankYou Transfer Partner with a 25% Bonus

The above post is a Quick Deal I wrote over at Frequent Miler. While it is nice that Citi added their first domestic airline transfer partner, transfers are 2:1, meaning they most likely won’t be a good deal for most people. Still, they are temporarily offering a 25% bonus, so I know some regular Virgin America flyers will be excited.

Great Deals

eBay has a few gift cards on sale today. The Kmart card can be purchased for $42.50 and sold to SaveYa for $42.01. Considering you will earn 2% in eBay Bucks, 5X with Chase Ink and a possible 5% through a portal, you could potentially make a couple of bucks plus a few points.

The Target cards are sold by GiftCardMall so they won’t earn 5X with Chase Ink. You should still earn portal rewards and 2% in eBay Bucks. They are probably¬†not a good deal for reselling, but could be useful for everyday spending.

Have a great day!
