Miles to Memories roundup

Posts That Caught My Eye

On Southwest’s stealth devaluation, and it’s almost booking time for the holidays!

Southwest has apparently changed the amount of points required per dollar. While their points value is variable, this change means the maximum value of points is now 1.39 cents down from 1.43 cents. (I have searched and this seems to be the case, but I’m not sure how to 100% confirm it for all routes.)

Either way, this is the problem when a program doesn’t have an award chart or published rate. They can just things whenever they want.

The benefit multiplier effect

Sort of like my trifecta post last week, this looks at what products work together to create downstream benefits like better mileage earning. A good read.

American Will Introduce Domestic Premium Economy Next Year

This is probably not going to be good news for elites as we will probably see what has happened with Comfort+ at Delta happen here too. This is just another move towards removing inefficiencies in product and pricing. The airlines want to have a product at every price point and want to give out less freebies.

My Retention Offers for Citi Forward, Premier, Prestige & AA Platinum Credit Cards

It is good to see Citi is still being generous with their retention offers. This is a good reminder that it has been awhile since my last retention call. Time to do it again with my Prestige annual fee coming due and I might as well as about offers on other cards.

Great Deals

  • $100 Sears for $85 and other gift card deals at eBay. Details here.
  • If you hold a Gold Delta SkyMiles credit card you may be targeted for 1,000 free miles. You can check here. HT: Mommy Points

Have a great afternoon!

  1. Shawn,

They are such a phenomenal company and provide such an excellent product at such a good price that I am not going to cry over a 0.04 cent devaluation. When was the last time any devaluation was that painless? I could go on and on about how much value we have gotten from 2 SWA cards and the companion pass but others already have. They do it right as evidenced by the ratings (so do you by the way).
