New Hyatt Benefits Realized

Exactly one month ago Hyatt announced what they called, “Innovative New Loyalty Benefits” for top-tier members of their Gold Passport program. Among these benefits are premium Wi-Fi, United Club passes and what they call Guest of Honor.

They described the benefits this way:

  • Guest of Honor – Beginning March 1, members can extend their Diamond in-hotel benefits such as Regency Club or Grand Club access, free breakfast and late check out to family or friends when they transfer a free night stay using Hyatt Gold Passport points. By extending Diamond privileges to members’ friends or family on an award stay, Hyatt is providing the warmest possible welcome and an extraordinary on-property experience.
  • United Club Passes – Beginning March 1, Diamond members will receive two complimentary United Club one-time passes annually.  Diamond members will enjoy access to more than 45 United Club locations at airports served by United Airlines, with amenities that include complimentary bar service, light snacks, free Wi-Fi, conference room access and more.  This benefit extends Hyatt’s hospitality beyond its hotels and ensures Diamond members are comfortable and productive throughout their entire travel journey.
  • Premium Wi-Fi – Beginning February 14, Diamond and Platinum members will receive premium Wi-Fi access (where available) in guestrooms and social spaces, such as lobbies and Hyatt-operated restaurants. Access to a premium Wi-Fi experience ensures members work more efficiently when away from the home or office.

In reality the premium Wi-Fi just came to be as a result of normal Wi-Fi becoming free for all guests. With that said, the other two benefits are particularly interesting to me. Lets take a closer look.

Guest of Honor

Guest of Honor kicks in when a Diamond member books a room for someone else with points out of their own account. Before the Diamond member would have to show up (in theory) for the guest to receive the benefits. Now, those benefits are extended automatically.

One pitfall of this program is the Diamond member has to be able and willing to use points from their own account to pay for the guest’s room. If someone is kind enough to do that for you, then don’t forget your manners. Perhaps you could send them something?!?

United Club Passes

I don’t have much to add here, but I did receive my two Hyatt branded United Club passes in the mail yesterday. While elite status technically expires at the end of February, it is nice to see the passes have an expiration in August. This gives them about 18 months of usability.

Conclusion

I am a huge fan of Hyatt. Deciding to go for Diamond status was one of the best moves I have made in recent years. Before these additions, Hyatt Diamond was already one of the best top level hotel elite statuses available. Now with these added perks, I think it is even better. I’m sure my family will agree the next time I book a stay for them!

  1. You could just have the friend/family combine their Hyatt points in your account for their redemption. That is free to do and can be done once every 30 days, but you do need to submit the request form.
