New Year’s Airline Portal Bonuses
The airline portals have really stepped it up over the past couple of months with bonus promotions. Since the beginning of November we have seen a couple of holiday bonus promotions and now three of the major portals are having New Year’s deals. Let’s take a look!
Alaska MileagePlan New Year’s Bonus
The Offer
Welcome winter with bonus miles.

- “New Year Bonus” bonus campaign runs from 12/26/16 through 01/08/17 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”).
- Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 1,000 Mileage Plan™ Shopping bonus miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard Mileage Plan™ Shopping miles earned from shopping online through the Mileage Plan™ Shopping mall.
Earning Structure
- 500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $150.
- 1,000 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of $300 or more.

AAdvantage eShopping New Year’s Bonus
The Offer
Celebrate the New Year in style with bonus miles.
Key Terms
- “End of Year Flash Bonus” bonus campaign runs from 12/26/16 through 01/03/17 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”).
- Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 1,000 AAdvantage® miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard AAdvantage® miles earned from shopping online through the AAdvantage eShoppingSM mall.
Earning Structure
- 500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $150.
- 1,000 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of $300 or more.

United MileagePlus Shopping New Year’s Bonus
The Offer
Resolve to travel more in 2017. Shop and earn up to 1,000 bonus award miles.
Key Terms
- “New Year Bonus” bonus campaign, which runs from 12/26/16 through 01/06/17 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”).
- Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 1,000 MileagePlus® bonus award miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard MileagePlus miles earned from shopping online through the MileagePlus® Shopping mall.
Earning Structure
- 500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $150.
- 1,000 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of $300 or more.

Analysis
These bonuses basically provide an extra 3.33X on top of the normal earnings when you hit each of the thresholds. Since we have promotions from several portals it should be possible to get this bonus at more than one or to have several family members hit the bonus at the same one. Always check Cashback Monitor to make sure you are getting the best return even when factoring in the bonus.
Southwest & Delta?
As of now the Southwest and Delta shopping portals don’t seem to be running a New Year’s bonus promotion, however I’ll make sure to cover it if they do.
Conclusion
With all of these mileage portal promotions, the earning opportunities really do add up. I have personally earned thousands of miles through shopping thanks to these promotions and plan to earn more in the New Year. Happy shopping!

Howdy! Quick question…I am about to lose about 3500 AAdvantage miles…because of geography. Does anyone know if by using a portal and earning miles, it will keep activity in the account and i won’t lose those? I can’t seem to find the info on AA website! Cheers.
