New Office Depot Rewards Program Coming July 1st, Earn 2% on Everything

Office Depot and OfficeMax have been testing out a new rewards program in a few cities since last year, Dallas, Denver and Nashville. After more than a year it will finally be launched nationwide. Starting July 1st, those enrolled in the current program will be transferred over, and new members can sign up directly for the new rewards program.

Here’s some details of the new program:

  • Your member number will stay the same
  • You can still use unexpired reward certificates
  • Earn 2% back in rewards on everything
  • All rewards paid out, whether you earn $100 or a penny
  • Redeem rewards instantly at check out, in-store, online or on mobile devices

Earn 2% on Everything

What’s special about this rewards program, is that it earn 2% on all purchases. And that really means ALL purchases, gift cards included. That’s how it has been working on those few cities up until now and it should be the same for its nationwide launch, at least in the beginning.

That should make gift card deals much better, especially during promotions, since it will add 2% in savings on top of the discount and your 5x UR.

  1. I just hope Chase dont catch this windfall and begin a policy change for Ink Business. Greed is good but greed also kills.

  2. As nice as it is to earn 2% on gift cards, how do they think they are competing against Staples which gives 5% back on everything besides gift cards? So people will come to OD just to get gift cards? It definitely is a step up from the current program which is way too convoluted.

    • Staples actually devalued about a year or so ago so base members only receive 2% back as well. When you spend $500-$1000 you hit the 3% tier and $1K+ you get 5%. I think the fact they pay on gift cards is quite valuable, but I agree for big spenders outside of that category, Staples Rewards is definitely better with all prices being equal.

      • I buy VGC at staples a lot but never got rewards for buying VGCs. I also buy lot of 3rd party GCs when they go on sale but never got rewards for them either. I am interested to know what made you say they pay on gift cards?

  3. Are people actually getting 3% now? I never bother give my info to the OD cashier when I buy GC because I figured I won’t get credit anyway.

    • Yes, I’m in one of the cities that had the initial pilot program at Office Depot and it has been paying 3% on VGC purchases as late as last week. I will say that it is a pain to buy VGC’s at OD/OM due to limiting the use of credit cards to buy VGC’s.
