Back in October of 2016 RadPad shut down its rent payment service and was going out of business. But in January of this year the LA start-up found itself a new home. Dallas-based LandlordStation purchased them for an undisclosed price. LandlordStation, which provides tenant screening, felt that RadPad complemented its business. Now you can pay your rent through RadPad once again.

Even though RadPad charged a 2.99% fee for rent payments made by credit card, it was a good avenue to rack up points or complete spending requirements. One of the biggest draws was that the Chase Sapphire Reserve card was coding at travel (3x UR points) when used on RadPad app through ApplePay or AndroidPay. For other credit cards you’re better off using Plastiq with a 2.5% fee.

The app is available again and you can once again make payments. ApplePay or AndroidPay are still listed as options, but I tested the latter and it gave me an error. Maybe they still have kinks to work out.

Keep in mind that towards the end people starting experiencing lots of problems while paying their rents. Checks were bouncing and their customer service wasn’t very responsive. But they’re under new owners now, so it might be different.

Are you willing to give them an other try?

    • Thanks for the reminder, I added it to post. Forgot to mention Plastiq. Yes, for most credit cards Plastiq makes more sense.

  1. I called my CSR line after experiencing issues last time and she informed me that coding as travel is something bank is cracking down on after releasing the CSR (including the lower bonus points for new cards, now). If they do code as travel they will be shut down in no time and she said the bank has right to revoke your points and take them back from your statement even after you have earned them if merchant codes incorrectly.

I do like notion of Apple Pay as it’s convenient, but at 2.5% Plastiq is simply better option and I’ve been paying closer to 2% with recent MC promotion.
