Amex Serve Tax Refund Bonus
Earlier today I received an email from American Express about direct depositing my tax refund into my Serve account. The email which appears to be targeted, offers $20 free for having my tax refund direct deposited into my Serve account. The email states:

This type of bonus shows you who American Express is targeting with their Serve product. While most people would generally have their tax refund deposited into a bank account, this is a good reminder that Serve acts pretty much in the same way.
As someone who is self employed, I simply don’t have a tax refund, however some of you may. While it is generally never a good idea to let the government hold on to your money tax free, I recognize people end up with tax refunds for various reasons. If I did have a refund, I would probably go for the free money since Serve makes it so easy to pay bills or even transfer money to a regular bank account.
Conclusion
As mentioned before, this promotion appears to be targeted since there isn’t a way to register. The only way to tell if you have been targeted is to check your email. If you weren’t targeted for this promo don’t feel bad, they almost never target me except when I can’t participate!

When I first got my Serve card early 2014, I was offered this promo and I participated. I got my refund promptly and the $20 bonus came right with it. I’m hoping that it happens again since I haven’t received any correspondence about any tax refund bonus yet.
UPDATE: I called AMEX Serve customer support about a month ago inquiring about something unrelated and then just brought up the tax refund promo and I was told that it was happening again and that I would receive $10 bonus. However, I just received my refund about 4 days ago and no bonus was received. I figured it would happen if I was not targetted for the promotion. Oh well, I thought it would be a nice little gift but I’m not gonna call and complain about misinformation.

My guess is the $20 is illegal in certain states, so its targeted based off your zip code.
I had to read this twice. I think you mean you don’t have a tax refund, you still have a return. If you are self employed you need to file a return and pay taxes. You could always over pay a bit to get a refund.

So I received a Serve email about taxes but NO $20 offer. My wife didn’t even receive the email at all. Definitely seems to be YMMV.
I can’t even find an email address to shoot them an email regarding this offer. Don’t want to have to call and go through the prompts for something as simple as this. Is there an email address that I’m just completely missing? I looked everywhere. The “reply to” email was a sequence of numbers that didn’t look like it would be received so I didn’t even attempt that route.
You mean a tax refund, as everyone is required to file a return.
You are correct. I guess I shouldn’t write late at night. I did mean to say tax return. I do file tax returns, but do not have a refund. The post has been corrected. Thank you for pointing out my error!
