Staples is once again offering a special on the purchase of Visa gift cards. If you buy $300 or more in Visa gift cards, they will give you a $20 prepaid Visa card via rebate. There is a limit of 1 per household.
There are a couple of options to make money with this deal. The $200 Visa cards that Staples sells come with a $6.95 fee. So if you were to buy 2 cards, then the cost would be $413.90 with a $20 rebate coming back. Essentially you would be making $6.10.
If you use a card like the Chase Ink which offers 5x points at office supply stores, then you would earn 2070 points. Not bad. You can also purchase a $200 card and a $100 card for $1 less in fees if that makes more sense to you.
Also, last week Amex released a Sync promotion where you get a $20 statement credit for a $100 purchase at Staples. While this deal is dead now, if you were able to get in on it, then this is potentially more lucrative. There are quite a few scenarios for making this work and Deals We Like has laid them all out!
Right now I am out of the country, so I will not be able to participate, but this is a great deal! I wish that they would raise the limit of one per household, but who can argue with free points/money. Utilizing deals like these is an important way to build up your points balance and it doesn’t hurt to make a few dollars along the way.
