Targeted SPG Amex Spending Offer

Targeted SPG Amex Spending Offer

American Express has targeted some SPG Business cardholders with a very good spending offer for using their card. Let’s take a look.

The Offer

Earn 5,000 Starpoints after you spend $5,000 in qualifying purchases using your Card. Plus, earn an additional 5,000 Starpoints (for a total of 10,000 bonus Starpoints) after you spend an additional $5,000 (for a total of $10,000) in qualifying purchases on your Card.

Key Terms

  • Registration and spending must be completed by 10/15/16.
  • Qualifying purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents.

Analysis

This is a very good offer in my opinion given the overall value of SPG Starpoints. It amounts to earning 2 points everywhere on up to $10K in spend and is an offer that I would gladly take advantage of. While I know several people who were targeted, neither my wife nor I received the offer. 🙁

  1. I was targeted. I think it’s a great promo. Starpoints are my favorite currency. I hope thIs is the beginning of more Amex promos for general spend.

  2. T&C says “purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents” don’t qualify. Does this mean buying visa gift cards don’t count?

    • Hard to say. Typically though, VGCs have worked in the past when terms like that state no CEs. You can try purchasing a $25 VGC as a test.

  3. Targeted and enrolled, but I have no clue which card was enrolled as it does not disclose that since you login with your general Amex login. I have both the personal and business cards. Guess a call to Amex is in order.

  4. I was targeted but it doesn’t sign like a deal. I would get 10,000 points anyway if I spent 10,000 in purchases. What am I missing?

  5. The Offer reads to me like you spend $10,000 to get 10,000 – which I do anyways. Are you sure you will receive 20,000 after $10,000 spending?

  6. I didn’t get an email but when I checked the link you provided my business card came up as eligible. I’ll easily get the bonus points as I regularly charge more than 5k a month to the card. Thanks for posting.
