THE CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED

It has been a little over 3 years since my family travel blog ‘Family Round the World transformed into Miles to Memories, my full time job. While admittedly in the beginning there were far fewer of you, one of the joys of writing this blog has been to correspond with all of my readers. (Ok, most of you.) 😉

I won’t make this long and drawn out, but I am incredibly grateful for this blog, the community that has grown around it, my family and good friends like PDX Deals Guy, RD and Karl who have helped to create high quality content to share with you.

In recognition of this day where I spent way too much money on just about everything (not for my own consumption by the way) and inspired by Doctor of Credit’s $50 Amazon Thanksgiving giveaway (enter his contest too), I thought I would give away a $50 Amazon gift card.

To enter, simply leave a comment with a tip or trick you want to share, or in the absence of that tell us what you are thankful for today! (If you have never commented before, your comment will be held in moderation. Don’t worry I’ll see it and approve it. There is no need to leave another comment!) I’ll close the comments and randomly choose a winner sometime over the next day!

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving. If you are braving the stores today or tomorrow, may the force be with you.

Disclosure: Miles to Memories has partnered with CardRatings for our coverage of credit card products. Miles to Memories and CardRatings may receive a commission from card issuers.

  5. Shawn, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. You’ve got a great blog with information that I use often. Thanks to you we are now going to Hawaii every year. I even say that for me it’s cheaper to take a family of 4 to Hawaii for a week than to go for a day at Disneyland living in Southern California. Tip: Follow MtM blog for current deals and read through MtM archives to get information on Shawn’s travels. Thanks again.

  6. So grateful for the health of me and my family and for having the opportunity to travel and create memories with my growing children.

  7. I truly am thankful for being bought in the mile and point world by you! So my family and I are able to benefit from learning and reading all details in your blog as well as enjoying the travel much less than what we imagine.

  8. I am thankful for becoming a naturalized US citizen after many years of living here. I know of people who have waited for years to get a green card and never having achieved it, they finally gave up and went back to their native land. I can only imagine that this situation will not get any better with the incoming administration next year.

  9. Thankful to all boarding area bloggers /DoC/MMS who all tremendously helped me in this hobby!!

  10. Tip: stock up on Costco (Sam’s, BJ’s) gift cards before the end of the year to complete the $1500 spend on the Freedom card for 5x.
Shawn, thank you for your time in always answering questions and helping our your readers.

  11. Today and every day I am thankful for the many friends I have met through this hobby and the many opportunities that I have been provided that I otherwise never would have experienced.

  12. Tip: even if your wife says she is okay with you flying business with her in economy, she isn’t…don’t do it!

While I am at it : thanks for all the helpful information and entertainment I have enjoyed at Miles to Memories .

  17. I’m thankful for learning travel hacking from a couple places including Miles to Memories & Boarding Area which allowed my mom and I to go to a memorial service / family reunion at very little expense out of pocket. Mom has dementia and it was most likely her last trip.

  18. Thankful for all the generous boarding area writers who share their stories and expertise. Like Miles to Memories!

  19. Best tip ever is “hang up, call again.” It’s so easy to give up, but if you are polite, and friendly, you can often get what you are asking for from the next person you speak with.

  20. When you travel make sure you roll all of your clothing, you will be able to get a lot more into your suitcase without wrinkling it.

  21. Obviously, thankful for my family and friends and good health but also for getting hooked on this blog! Happy Thanksgiving!

  22. Thankful for my friends and family and the ability to travel and see so many different cultures in the world, and thankful for your terrific and super practical blog!

  23. Be friendly to people who work in the travel and accommodation industries, and remember to say thank you. It has gone a long way for me.

  24. Thankful for my health and that of my family. Thankful for food and a roof over our heads. Thankful for friends. Thankful for your time writing this blog to help us learn. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  25. Thankful for my family and the ability to travel with them despite my husband and I spending our careers in the non-profit/public sector.

  27. I’m thankful for all the travel hacking bloggers who made it possible for people like me to travel without breaking the bank.

  28. Thankful for learning new things here and for all the people I have “met” reading comments.

Also a tip for some MSing….if you need someone to fix something, ask them if they will accept a Visa GC and that way you do not have to do the MO thing or whatever.

  29. I am thankful for the gift of my friends and family! My tip for the day is to remember to use airline shopping portals when shopping online. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

  30. Thank you for sharing a lot of great deals. Tips: Act ASAP to if there is a great deal. Otherwise you will miss that deal very quickly.

  31. I’m thankful for credit card churning – I have 3 international trips scheduled next year, for which I’ve paid about $200in fees. Thanks, banks, and thanks to the bloggers and others who point out the deals for me!

  34. I am still too much of a newbie to offer a tip! I am grateful for my kind and generous husband and 4 wonderful dogs!

  35. I’m thankful to be able to travel with my wife and daughters, miles/points make it much easier.

  36. Very thankful to have discovered your blog and FB group both of which are ahhhmazing! TIP: Add extra money to your credit card using yur banks bill pay service. Added bonus if you have a cash rewards card.

  37. Add any authorized user to your Amex Personal Gold to qualify for the offers twice! If the purchase you are trying to make is really large and you cannot split the transaction onto two cards, then first buy an egift certificate from the company to qualify for the offer on the first card, and then use the certificate with the second card to actually purchase your item. I just did this today on the eBags promotion to score $20 off $100 on a luggage set.

  38. Thankful to have found an online community of other people interested in this travel miles and points hobby.

  39. Tip to get Amazon credits toward future purchases: exchange your Bing Rewards for Amazon $5 rewards. It slowly adds up

  40. Any time my travels take me out of the country (and even sometimes when they don’t), I prepare a document with the embarrassingly unimaginative title, “General Information about X” (where “X” is the name of the country/ies I will be visiting. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times this document has saved me from uncomfortable situations, being cash-strapped, stranded or even running afoul of local laws.

  41. Tip: Leave a comment here to thank Shawn for his good work, and then check the box for “Notify me of new posts by email” below – so that you get real-time email updates from his new posts. (Full disclosure: Shawn hypothetically pays me in crab dinners, to provide occasional content and suck-up in comments.)

Happy Thanksgiving, Shawn – to you and your family. And to all the great readers and commenters here at MtM.

  42. I am thankful that I live in a country that allows me the freedom to make my own choices. I just stated this points and miles thing in the past year, but my travels remind me that I am very fortunate in many ways.

  43. I’m thankful for your FB group with friendly helpful followers. My tip for today is to remember to check RetailMeNot for savings. Today I found a 15% off coupon for Patagonia which I used towards clothes on my son’s wish list for the holidays! ☺️

  44. I’m thankful for my loved ones, my health and my job. I’m thankful for all the wonderful friends I’ve made through this community as well as the amazing opportunities this community has given me.

  45. Hope you and your family have a WONDERFUL Holiday. Keep up the good work of keeping us informed. Thanks
