Walmart Grocery Amex Offer

Walmart Grocery is a new service from the chain that enables you to order groceries online and pick them up curbside at your local Walmart. Select stores in certain markets now have special parking spaces where an employee will bring your order out to you. Thankfully if you are looking to try out this new service, there is a new way to save some money if you are targeted!

The Offer

Get a one-time $20 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $100+ in one or more transactions online at grocery.walmart.com by 9/30/2017.

Key Terms

  • Enrollment limited.
  • Offer valid only on grocery.walmart.com.
  • Valid only on US website.
  • Excludes purchases on third party or affiliated websites linked with/from grocery.walmart.com (such as but not limited to Walmart.com, Walmart Contacts, Walmart Checks, Walmart Photo Services, Walmart Stationary, and Walmart Moneygram).

How to Load

This offer is targeted and can only be loaded to select cards via the American Express website or app. I seemed to receive the offer on personal “Blue” cards and not on business or co-branded cards.

$10 Off First Purchase

In addition to the Amex Offer savings, you can get $10 off your first order by using someone’s referral link. Get $10 off with this link.

Analysis

To be clear, this doesn’t work on the normal Walmart website or to purchase gift cards, but this could still be a great and convenient way to get your groceries. Combined with the new member promo, you could get $110 worth of groceries for $80. A 27% discount on stuff you are going to buy anyway is probably pretty good.

I have a couple of local stores that are now offering this service and plan to try it out soon. Have you tried Walmart grocery? Share your experiences in the comments.

  1. This came to our city this summer and we have been pleased. It’s changed our whole routine. Out of 3 orders we’ve had no customer service delays, no cracked eggs, no squished bread and no bruised fruit. In that respect, they are doing better than I do on some days. The associates have been courteous and kind. So walmart grocery has been a win for our family.

  2. […] $20 Off $100 Purchase At Walmart Grocery:  Check your accounts as you may have a very useful Amex offer.  You could save $20 when spending $100 online through Walmart Grocery.  The great thing about it is that it doesn’t have to be $100 in one purchase.  You could spend $100 in one or more transactions. 3. Closest location is an hour away. Odd that they chose this as my pickup location. Looks like I’ll have to sit tight and wait and see if they roll this out locally.

My main concern is having items brought to me that have close expiration (or are already expired). I’m constantly checking dates on perishables I buy and quite often I find old or expired product that I have to set aside and pull the newer ones out from behind. Things like polish sausage, yogurt, bread, lunch meat….Also, let’s not forget produce which I’m sure is a big selling point for people that these curbside options will have to overcome.

If the discounts are good I’d be willing to try this seeing as I have a 3 year old and 9 month old so time and convenience (getting them out of the car) is definitely a selling point. However, my fear is with this in its infancy we’re going to see inefficiencies, long waits and damaged or old food being delivered.

  4. thanks for the post and referral link.
But there maybe a mistake in the post.
“you could get $80 worth of groceries for $110.”
Don’t you mean “you could get $110 worth of groceries for $80?”
