Staples No Fee Mastercard Deal

Easy 5X UR Points With Staples No Fee Mastercard Deal

Staples sells a variety of Visa & Mastercard gift cards. Depending on the value (up to $200) the fee to purchase these can cost as much as $6.95. Well, this week they are bringing back an offer that waives the fee completely. Let’s take a look.

The Offer

  • No purchase fee when you buy a $200 Mastercard® Gift Card

Key Terms

  • Valid 12/1/2019–12/7/2019.
  • The Mastercard® Gift Card is issued by Metabank, pursuant to a license from Mastercard International.
  • Limit 1 per customer.

You can find the full terms in the weekly ad (PG 7)

Maximizing This Deal

Cards like the Chase Ink Plus, Ink Cash and Amex SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases. I also assume you may be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV. You can also use cards that have the Amex Offer or Chase Offer for Staples purchases.

WARNING

Mastercards have had some fraud issues in the past so only purchase them if you have a known and immediate use for them.  Letting them sit in your draw for a few weeks/months is not a good idea. They can also be more difficult to liquidate than the Visa versions.

Spending the Mastercards

These Mastercards are PIN-enabled and should work anywhere Mastercard is accepted. I know people have had issues with these coding as debit cards at Walmart, but they do work at some places and can be run as credit if you are just using them to buy normal products.

Conclusion

It’s nice to see Staples bring back this offer, as many 5X sources have been drying up lately. Most people probably prefer Visa gift cards, but this should also be useful.

  1. Shoprite has a great deal this week. Buy any gift card (including MC and Visa) for $100 and get a $15 coupon. They had a similar deal on Friday and Saturday only but it was for a $20 coupon. It is one to customer.

Also, this week Acme is giving 10 times points for any gift cards except Visa and MC and Acme. It says one per transaction but has no dollar limit. 100 points are good for 10 cents per gallon discount at Exxon or Mobil so just a ten gallon fill-up is effectively a 10% discount on high value cards like Amazon. Twenty gallons is equivalent to a 20% discount. I am not sure if the affiliated stores have the same deal. Also, sometimes my local Acme won’t accept a credit card to buy a gift card but apparently that is not true at all stores.
