How I Rack Up 5X Earning With My Chase Ink Card
So many things have changed over the last few years. Easy 5X earning used to be low hanging fruit for miles and points fanatics. Those were the days when PayPal Digital Gifts purchases used to work, CardCash purchases coded 5X and Amazon gift cards were sold everywhere online plus many other dead deals. You even used to get portal bonuses and eBay bucks on some of those purchases 😥😥. The Golden Years of earning! Now we are left with the crumbs but some are bigger than others. I wanted to share with you how I rack up 5X earning with my Chase Ink Card.
5X Earning Options I Use
I still have the old and trusty Ink Plus card which is no longer available but the comparable Chase Ink Cash still is and it earns 5X Ultimate Rewards in the same ways. The only differences are that the Ink Cash’s 5X earning is capped at $25K per year versus $50K for the Ink Plus. The Ink Cash also earns non transferable points which you can “unlock” or make transferable with a premium Chase card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve. Here are the ways I still rack up 5X Ultimate Rewards:
I am into gift card reselling and have been for some time. While many of these avenues have dried up there are still a few good options for gift card resellers:
- Office Store Deals
Gyft has deals semi-regularly that gives you a discount on 3rd party gift cards. These are often options that are profitable for resale or to discount your spending when you use the gift card. I will even purchase full price gift cards from them before making a purchase online. Options like Walmart, Groupon, Target and eBay come to mind. Maxing out the earning on your purchases is one of the best ways to rack up points.
Office stores will also offer 3rd party gift cards on discount from time to time that can be profitable. They also have Visa & Mastercard gift card deals. There are ways to liquidate these cards for a points profit or you can use them to pay your regular expenses that would not normally have 5X earning, think utilities etc.
Cable and cell phone service prices continue to go up, especially for new cell phones. Even if you cut the cord and go with streaming services, like Netflix, these options still earn 5X UR points with the Chase Ink Cash. I love racking up tons of points on purchases I would have made anyway. Unfortunately the Ink Cash card does not have cell phone insurance like the Chase Ink Preferred does. The Ink Preferred only earns 3X Ultimate Rewards on these purchases but some may prefer the insurance that comes with the lower earning rates. Something to consider if you hold both cards, which you can do.
Remember that other purchases like Apple Watches, chargers and headphones from cell phone providers earns 5X as well. Sometimes they have some steep discounts on these options and good cashback portal payouts for these purchases as well. Keep your eyes open for reselling options or big discounts on needed accessories.
Travel? But travel earns 1X on the Chase Ink Cash card you say. And it has no travel protections! You are correct on both of those points. But with proper planning you can make this work for you.
Did you know Gyft and office stores sell many travel gift cards? Here is a list of some you can find:
- American Airlines
- Southwest Airlines
- And maybe more in stores
If you purchase the gift cards to pay for your flights or hotels you are earning 5X on those purchases. Did you know only a portion of your flight has to go on your credit card to get protections? So if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve you can still get travel insurance coverage and earn 5X on most of the purchase. Let’s say the flight is $305. Pay for $300 of it with a gift card at 5X earning and put the other $5 on the CSR. By doing this you earn 5X on most of the flight cost and still get travel protections! That is a win/win in my book.
You can also do this for your gas purchases. Most office stores have a few different gas station chain gift cards. The great thing about doing this is you can usually get the cash price on your fuel when paying with a gift card on top of earning 5X! For more details check out my post on how to get a maximum return on your gas purchases.
The Chase Ink Cash card is one of the best, if not the best, cards on the market for amassing a ton of points on your spend. Since welcome offers are tougher to get these days we need to maximize the purchases we can. And with some outside the box thinking you can earn 5X Ultimate Rewards on a lot more purchases than you think.
Let me know how you earn 5X with your Ink card or if there is anything I missed in the comments.
