Codesharing

If you are a member of either American Airlines AAdvantage or US Airways Dividend Miles then you may have awoken to an email with yet another announcement regarding the integration of the two airlines.

Starting today for travel after January 23, 2014 you will be able to buy AA flights on US Air’s website and vice-versa.  This opens up a range of new routes and options for paid tickets.

Bonus

Perhaps the best news to come from today’s announcement is a 50% mileage bonus on US Airways flights credited to American Airlines  or American Airlines flights credited to US Airways.  This means that in addition to any elite mileage bonuses, you will earn an additional 50%.

This is a great deal and definitely an incentive to book the other airline despite not having other elite benefits like upgrades.

Check your email inbox for the code and specific information regarding the promotion.  You must register for this promotion, although it seems flights booked before registering will still earn the 50% off.

The text of the email from AA is below.

[quote]One of the biggest benefits of our merger with US Airways is our expanded network, which can take you to more than 330 destinations around the world. Now we’re making it even easier for you to seamlessly book flights on US Airways through a codeshare agreement, which allows each airline to sell seats on flights operated by the other carrier.

Starting today, you’ll begin to see select flights operated by US Airways for sale on aa.com, through our reservations department or through travel agencies. These flights are for travel beginning January 23, 2014 and are in addition to the exciting benefits we recently announced, which include earning and redeeming AAdvantage®miles on both American and US Airways.

What does this mean for you?

  • Better East Coast access through the US Airways Shuttle, which offers hourly departures from Boston Logan (BOS), Washington Reagan (DCA) and New York LaGuardia (LGA)
  • Greater options for travel to your favorite destinations and beyond through improved access between our hubs at DFW, LAX, JFK, Miami (MIA), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Charlotte Douglas (CLT), Philadelphia (PHL) and Phoenix (PHX)

You’ll need to check in with the operating airlines online or at the airport. So, before you travel, confirm which airline is operating your flight and check for gate and terminal information, as many American and US Airways gates are located in different terminals. We’ll continue to add more codeshare flights with US Airways and expect to provide access to nearly all flights throughout the combined network soon.
