American Business Class Award Space to Europe

According to View from the Wing, American Airlines has loaded a lot of business class space for their new 2018 seasonal flights to Europe. Quite a lot of confirmable upgrade space is showing as well.

Summer 2018 to Europe

Here is what is available next summer for 3 people from Chicago to Venice. This flight is operated by a 787-800 aircraft with lie flat seats.

There is also a lot of space on their Philadelphia to Budapest and Philadelphia to Prague routes. Those flights are operated by 767-300 aircraft with very narrow lie flat seats. Here is the space showing for 3 people on each of these routes.

Which Plane Is Best?

In my opinion the ORD-VCE flight is probably the best of the bunch due to the aircraft used. While the business class seats on AA’s 787 aircraft aren’t perfect, they are far superior to those used on the 767 aircraft.

My main complaint with the 767 seat is it’s width. Due to the size of the aircraft, the seats are very narrow. With that said, all seats have aisle access which is a plus. American’s 767 business class also doesn’t feature built in IFE. They do hand out a tablet but it isn’t quite the same.

If you are thinking about a Summer getaway to Europe next year then now may be the time to burn those American miles. Business Class space on American flights is tough to find, especially during peak travel times. As of now there is ample space, but it definitely will go quickly.

  1. These flights went in a big hurry. However in my searching for Bus. Seats I found a flight that was AA metal from DFW to LHR, and then BA from LHR to Paris. Whoa, wait a minute, was that really an AA flight landing at LHR. I was needing to use up ThankYou points that I had moved to Etihad and they had to be on AA metal. I snagged those two Bus. seats and used AVIOS to get from my city to DFW. Incidentally, I could take AA from my home city to LHR through DFW, but since 1st or Bus. was not available, Etihad would not book a mixed Eco/Bus flight, even though it was valid on AA site. Adding AVIOS and the 50K Ethihad AA points I came out the same as if I had booked AA. However, I had to use those Etihad points or lose them. I kept looking and then found a return flight back when I needed flying AA from Shannon, Ireland to PHL. Who would have guessed AA flew to Shannon, Ireland. It is an older single aisle plane but says angle lie flat. I will keep looking, and Etihad lets me make changes. I talked with 3 Etihad agents at the US number and all were knowledgeable and easy to understand.

  2. In April it is showing availability in Business class from PHL on aircraft 333. How are the Biz class seats on the 333?

    • The 333 has a similar seat to Cathay Pacific. The 333 in fact has the original Reverse Herringbone design. The decor may feel a bit dated, but the seat is comfortable.
