American Express Business Platinum no annual fee

American Express Business Platinum 100K – No Annual Fee

Whenever you can pickup 100,000 points for signing up for a credit card, it generally is a good deal. For most of us, getting 100K points and paying a $450 annual fee for the Amex Platinum card is worth it, especially considering the benefits and travel credits, etc. But what if you signed up and your paperwork came to show there wasn’t an annual fee at all?

It seems that quite a few people have had such a surprise happen. I first saw this reported on Travelling the World. At first he applied for the card where he seemingly thought the annual fee would be $450, but when it arrived, the cardmember agreement showed $0 the first year. Then, his first statement printed and he was not charged the fee.

Apparently this has happened to quite a few people (but not all) on Reddit. If you have applied but have not received the materials in the mail or if you apply in the future and want to check immediately, you can view your cardmember agreement online.

To view your cardmember agreement online:

  • Login to your online account linked to the Business Platinum Card.
  • Go to the “Account Services” section.
  • Click “Card Management”
  • Click “Request Cardmember Agreement”.

For the people who are not being charged a fee, the agreement is showing the first year annual fee as waived. This might make it tough for American Express to go back and change their minds later, but they certainly could try.

Should You Apply?

Remember, you can only get the bonus on the Business Platinum card if you have not had the product before. 100K ties the best public offer we have seen on this card, but sometimes targeted offers as high as 150K do surface. I would say if you could guarantee the $450 annual fee would be waived then this is definitely worth pursuing, but of course there is no way to guarantee that will happen.

Basically my personal thoughts on this are that it is a nice kicker, but I wouldn’t apply counting on the fee being waived. If it is a deal you would apply for otherwise, then perhaps this will make it even sweeter. In the end, the app does show a $450 annual fee and there is a chance that American Express will fix this at any minute.

  1. I have an Amex offer to upgrade my Business Gold to Platinum. Any idea if these were new applications only or if this also happened to those who upgraded?

  2. Oh my gosh! I just checked the cardmember agreement for hubby who just applied for this card yesterday, it says “$0 annual fee first year and after $450”!! Sweet!!!!!!

  3. Sweet! I got this card and had been confused when the $450 fee didn’t get added to the first statement, but figured that it might get added after a full month. I just checked the cardmember agreement though and it confirms that it’s waived the first year. I’ve saved a copy of the online agreement in case they try to charge the fee at a later date.

This is an amazing deal for the 100k MR, 2 x $200 airline fee credits and all the other perks.
