American Express Hilton Application Glitch

American Express Hilton Application Glitch! Who Knows What You’re Gonna Get

Something weird is going on with American Express and applications for their new Business Hilton credit card. The card currently has a great bonus for 125,000 Hilton Honors points, plus an even better one that shows up through dummy booking. It gives you the same bonus plus a $50 statement credit.

American Express Hilton Application Glitch

People who applied for the Amex Hilton Business card are getting approved for one of the personal Hilton cards. They are getting either the no-fee card that has a 75K bonus or the Ascend card that has a 100K bonus.

There’s already a few data points on this Reddit thread. So far, Amex reps are confused and there seems to be no easy fix once this happens.

If you recently applied for the Amex Business Hilton credit card then you should probably check your status here to see if you’re affected.

This could be bad news for some people, besides the difference in the bonus received. The Business Hilton card doesn’t show up on personal credit reports. This is a big draw for those who are trying to stay under 5/24. But, if you get approved for one of the personal cards, instead of the business version, and you’re at 4/24, now you’re out of luck.

You might also end up with no bonus at all if you’ve previously had the personal card you get approved for.

Conclusion

There’s clearly something wrong with American Express’ application system. Hopefully they can fix this soon and also find a solution for those who were approved for the wrong card.

  1. I was hit by this glitch. I applied through the dummy booking link for 125k points and the $50 statement credit. After approval, the page they give with the new card number confirmed that I had been approved for the Business card. When it arrived however, it was the regular Hilton Honors personal card.

It took nearly an hour on the phone to sort things out. I finally was transferred to someone familiar with the glitch who confirmed the issue. He recommended that I cancel the card I had received and assured me that, as a regular AmEx customer, they had used their own internal data to approve me, and I had not gotten a credit pull.

Most importantly, he confirmed that the glitch is STILL LIVE and all online applications for the business Hilton can still be affected. He recommended that I reapply by phone, but the phone rep could not get my the same $50 statement credit offer.

  2. When did you apply?
It seems DP posted after 06/01 and happening to me on 06/01.
I could not find DP after 06/07.

    I didn’t make a mistake.
Everything looks like Business card until the temporary card number shown up.
It still shows Hilton Honors Business card on the background

  3. I did the dummy booking to get the 125,000 points and $50 statement credit. After clicking the offer for the business card, it brought me to a page with an offer for the personal card. I needed to click a small tab at the top to switch to the business card. I was approved twice. One under my name and another under my wife’s name. We got our cards and they were business cards. We also got the $50 statement credits. Now we’re just working on the minimum spending for the points. Hopefully that goes fine. I’m wondering if this problem mentioned in this article has to do with people not clicking that little tab/button when the offer from the personal card shows up after clicking the business card offer. It could be easy to miss that step which could lead to a personal application instead of a business application. Just a thought, but for me, other than that, the business application went through fine.

  4. I fail to see what the problem is here. AMEX is simply using the Wells Fargo method for opening new accounts. Grab your popcorn and wait for the class action lawsuit when the AMEX rats freeze customer accounts as the result of AMEX opening accounts customers did not ask for.
