Does Amex Have a Business Gold Glitch? Not Properly Paying 4X Earning?

If you have a American Express Business Gold card you may want to check recent statements. Reader JB San Diego commented the following on my post about how Amex was denying points on Simon Malls purchases:

This is only one data point but I thought it was worth alerting everyone since Amex was unwilling to credit back further than the end of March for some reason.  That seems like an outrageous rule but maybe they will randomly gift affected people points down the road. If gas is one of your top two spend categories be sure to check and see if your points properly posted.  You may want to check your other selected categories as well just to be safe. We have heard from some Facebook Group members that they had issues with other categories too.

  1. same goes here, didnt get my X4 points for US online ads since march.
    i called several times, they say that there is a technical issue for all business gold cards
    and they dont know when it will be fixed…what a strange comment.
    i asked then “what do you mean you dont know? it might take years as well?”
    the representative comment: i believe its not going to take years, but we dont know when it will be fixed.

    Same bull here, they now know of the issue but won’t correct the points. Jeff is waiting on 60k, I’m waiting on 47k!

    I switched my spend to CIP until they correct the issue. I won’t give them anymore spend until then!

  3. This is starting to really piss me off! They’ve shorted me over 60k miles over a three week period. I desperately need those extra miles to book a family trip to Europe. I’ve called them at least 3 times and every time I’m told they know of the problem and that they’re working on it. Fix this already!

    • It is bullshit for sure and annoying that they are not correcting it right away. Or at least crediting people’s accounts what they are owed.

  4. People are going nuts. This seems to be on all accounts across all of the 4X categories. Hard to believe they have so many IT issues for a company this large. I know some very big spenders who were going to stop charging until it is fixed. So many people have called and alot of confusion. I wonder why AMEX did not send an email to gold card holders that they are working on this issue.

    • I do find it strange how many issues they are having with this and with the personal Gold card with the 4X on some restaurants.

  5. I purchase shipping on a daily basis.

    So the last statement closed on the 15th – It said 15k pending and after the closing should have 4x and posted but instead it shouled the entire amount x 4 as “points posted on last statement” when they actually never posted though!

    Now my new pending balance is 17k – which if it goes right should 4x at 68k and post after this next statement closes!

    They manually adjusted the 15k but would do the 4x – todays update is the tech team is working on this now known issue and it’ll be 5-7 days.

  6. When did you last statement close? And last shipping purchase?

    I opened a case for my May statement and they manually adjusted and said 4x will automatically post next statement.

  7. Still haven’t gotten 4x for shipping – they fast tracked the 15k but still waiting for it to 4x. They stated they didn’t know about the issue until I reported it, forwarded to the MR team – 3 days will have a response. It’s been a week!

  8. I have the Gold card and do not shop at Simon, but I did receive all of my points when my statement closed earlier in May.

  9. Might not be related, but using the old blue cash, or the everyday preferred, Kroger gas station spending doesn’t get any bonus, it’s weird because you’d think it should fall between either a gas station or a supermarket, which are both in the bonus category. Had this happen numerous times.

  10. There are many people who i know of who hasnt gotten bonus points for gas station or even restaurants.( not the msr, i got the msr bonus. Am talking about the 4x points). I contacted amex, MR team called me and said there is a problem and will be resolved by 22nd. I personally dont trust those words but am sure its a glitch since for last 2 statements i havnt gotten the bonus, i only see the base points posted.
