Articles

The great, good, weird, and apologetic about the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort – The Free-quent Flyer

A pretty thorough trip report from his time at the Grand Wailea property.  Also some stacking tips offered on how to reduce your on site dining and beverage bill.

Be careful about upgrading Alaska saver flights with overnight connections from Google Flights – Miles Per Day

Something to be aware of when booking via Google Flights.  I have also noticed times where Google Flights doesn’t pull everything available and there have been price differences as well (to the good and to the bad).  It is a tool I use often but be sure to check the airline’s site as well to confirm it.

Waive that resort fee! Holding a hotel to its program policies – Points with a Crew

Wyndham is as shady as it gets in my opinion and this is right up their alley.  The program has some value no doubt but I don’t like dealing with the hassle.  Luckily Ian was prepared but things like this do not only happen at Wyndham properties.  Bethany had to fight with Grand Hyatt Baha Mar over the same thing her last two trips.  Shawn had a similar situation with a Hyatt mistake rate.  You need to be aware of the program terms and be ready to fight for them at times.

  1. After reading the article on the vino Bello, I looked and sure enough they charged me a resort fee too. I called them, and even though the stay was almost 3 months ago, they refunded the resort fee without any pushback. FYI.

    • Excellent – I am glad you were able to get your money back without issue. I wonder how many people never realize it and just pay it anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is in the 100’s of thousands of dollars a year throughout the brand.
