Alaska Airlines 5,000 Referral Bonus

Bank of America Alaska Airlines 10,000 Referral Bonus

Bank of America sent out emails to some Alaska Airlines credit card holders announcing a 10,000 mile referral bonus.  I haven’t seen this for a bit but I was just targeted for it again but it is 10,000 miles this time (was 5,000 in the past)

Updated 8/12/22: More people targeted.

Referral Details

Here’s how it works:
  • Refer your friends and family to the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card* (excludes business card accounts).
  • Obtain their consent to share their email address with Bank of America.
  • The person you referred will receive an e-mail with an offer for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card. Offers may vary elsewhere. They may not receive the offer if they previously opted out of receiving email marketing communications from Bank of America.
  • You will receive 10,000 referral bonus miles for each person you refer that responds directly from this offer, and is approved for a new Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card. You can earn up to 250,000 referral bonus miles each calendar year.
  • To qualify for this offer, your Alaska Airlines Visa® card account must be open with active charging privileges.

It looks like the link will work for anyone with a card since you have to plug in all the info.

Link To Referral Offers

The person who receives the referral will get the following offer:

  • 40,000 Alaska Airlines miles after spending $3,000 within 90 days
  • A bogo companion fare
  • $75 annual fee

Remember that Bank of America has the 2/3/4 rule.  I covered ways to increase your approval odds with BOA here.

Is This A Good Offer Or Should You Wait?

The referral offer looks to be the same as the current public offer but it isn’t as high as we have seen this year. Back at the beginning of the year Bank of America offered a 60K offer plus $100 statement credit. This is when I signed up for the card. Could something like that come back?

If you are using a 2 player system and refer your significant other etc. you would end up with 50,000 miles (40K bonus and 10K referral) plus a companion certificate. That cert’s valuation varies widely depending on use. These days it is probably worth $300-$500. That is assuming you can fly Alaska Airlines though. Many people use their miles on partners and never fly Alaska metal so consider that too.

I think this may be a better offer for some but not for others. It will depend on how you value the companion pass certificate. Remember that there is also a best ever 70K business card offer out there right now that is better than both of these offers too.

Final Thoughts

This offer could make sense for some if they can maximize the companion pass certificate. Others may be better off waiting for a better personal card offer to come around, even without the referral bonus of 10K miles. The current Alaska Business card offer trumps them all though. So you may want to start there anyway.

I do find it annoying that Bank of America doesn’t just let you share a referral link versus needing to collect your friend’s email etc. Just adds another hoop to the process in my opinion.

  1. I’m confused about this offer. I was always able to generate a referral by going to Alaska Airlines’ Promotion website and just filling in my information and my friend’s name and email. I received 5k points a few weeks after they signed up. Do you know how this differs from that method?

      • I received a referral offer of 15K up to the 250K limit. Do you know if BoA sends 1099s if they give you 60K+ in referral bonuses?

        • I’m not sure to be honest. Not sure if anyone has ever done it with BOA haha. I would just assume yes though myself
