The Best Hotel Deal In NYC Is Gild Hall With Hyatt Points

Hyatt recently added 8 new Thompson Hotels into their partnerships. You can now earn points and use points at these 8 hotels.  I ranked them from least exciting to most exciting and the one I am most excited about is Gild Hall in NYC.

Gild Hall NYC

The reason I am most excited about the addition of Gild Hall isn’t because of the hotel’s ranking although it is great, #44 in NYC – top 10% of hotels. That ranking is actually 1 spot higher than the Park Hyatt and better than both Andaz properties as well.

The reason isn’t because of the location which is Downtown in the financial district.  That isn’t ideal but it is doable with NYC’s great subway system.

I am extremely excited about this addition because of the price silly.  It is the only category 4 hotel on the island known as Manhattan. Hyatt Place – nope that is a category 5.  Hyatt House – same thing.  The 3rd highest rated Hyatt portfolio hotel in NYC is the cheapest location in the city, by 5,000 points a night.

But Wait, It Gets Better!

15,000 points a night is a steal in the city that never sleeps. I wondered if a category 1-4 free night would work on Thompson Hotels, I assumed so but wanted to be sure.  I reached out to Hyatt and they confirmed that you can use the certs on Thompson stays. Mind blown!

My love for the World of Hyatt credit card just increased. For $95 and $15,000 in spend I can get a weekend in NYC…sign me up!

And your first stay at a Thompson Hotel will net you a 2,000 point bonus courtesy of Hyatt. If you stay at all 4 of their upcoming brand additions (Thompson, Joie de Vivre Hotels, Alila Hotels, Destination Hotels) you earn a category 1-4 free night cert too.  You have until the end of the year to complete the challenge.

Conclusion

New York City is one of the most expensive cities to lay your head down in.  Whether you are talking cash or points there are very few properties that offer outsized value. You used to have to stay in Flushing or Queens to get a great deal on a Hyatt hotel.  The best points deal in the city was the worn down Sheraton by Central Park.  But I contend that Gild Hall is now the best deal in NYC!  I can’t wait to check it out and I doubt it stays a category 4 when the next realignment happens.

  1. Hi- you mention a free night certificate if one stays in all 4 of their upcom8ng brand additions. I’m not a Hyatt cc holder. Am i eligible for this? And where would I find the link please?

  2. Mark, yesterday I got 15,000 posts to work for Gilt booking; but annual cc free night did not work. Keep in contact with Hyatt. I’d love to see this (probable glitch) fixed.

    • I heard back from them and they have filed a case about it. They said it should be working but maybe the integration isn’t complete yet etc. I would say try it again in a day or two and let me know. If it still isn’t working they said they would kick it up the chain even further.

      • Today I was able to book a free night for May. Award night availability isn’t great, however, probably because the cash prices are NYC-style. Thanks for tweaking your friends at Hyatt. Good work.

Next I’d like you to work on getting Hyatt to stand behind their website info. Several hotels show “Regency / Grand Club Awards” on the Hyatt website, but when I call to use an Explorist Club Access Award, I’m told “they don’t have that.”

        • If they have a club lounge you should be able to get in. Have you tried having the twitter team attach it? Any particular properties you were looking at?

          • Here’s an example: Hyatt Centric Miami Beach

No, I haven’t tweaked the twitter folks. Just recently became disappointed to find that, after working hard to get them, my 4 club upgrades are going to be really challenging to actually use. I still like Hyatt. There are often opportunities for the non-road-warrior. Unlike some programs, it’s not just a long, uphill slog to accumulate enough points for a freebie week-end stay.

          • I used one last weekend in Minneapolis at an 8K per night property and I am using one in Denver next weekend. There are quite a few that don’t have lounges like all Hyatt Places and Houses and I would assume Centrics. I think Regency is the best brand for finding them.

Ultimate Rewards are the key to getting Hyatt stays imo. Racking them up at 5X with my Ink card is my go to for free Hyatt stays.
