Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Card

Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Card Now Available

As previously announced, Synchrony Bank has launched the Cathay Pacific Visa Signature card, and it is now available for sign ups, with a 25,000 miles bonus.

The Offer

Earn 25,000 bonus Asia Miles after spending $2,500 or more in the first 90 days of opening your account.

For new accounts only. Bonus miles will be posted to the account within 1-2 billing cycles after the qualifying purchase(s) are made.

Card Details

As mentioned above, the card is issued by Synchrony Bank. The bank usually deals with retailer credit cards, so this is the first airline card they issue (I think). Besides the 25,000 Asia Miles bonus, the card will also earn the following rates

  • Earn 2 Asia Miles per $1 spent on eligible Cathay Pacific travel and in-flight purchases.
  • Earn 1.5 Asia Miles per $1 spent on dining in the US or abroad.
  • Earn 1.5 Asia Miles per $1 spent on purchases outside of the US.
  • Earn 1 Asia Mile per $1 spent on all other purchases made in the US.

The card has no foreign transaction fees, so it could be an option for purchases abroad where you would earn 1.5 Asia Miles per $1.

New members will enjoy a complimentary first year green tier membership in the Marco Polo Club. It costs $100 USD/year to join, but the fee is waived if you earn 100 club points each year.

The annual fee for the card is $95 and it NOT waived the first year.

How to Apply

The card is available for applications today. The card is issued by Synchrony Bank, which mostly handles retailer credit cards and is pretty good at approving applications, but not very generous with credit limits.

If you do not qualify for a Cathay Pacific Visa Signature card, which usually requires a $5,000 credit limit, you will automatically be considered for the Cathay Pacific Visa card. The Reward Program Terms are the same for both types of card. However, the Visa Signature card and Visa card have different Visa benefits.

Conclusion

This is a decent card, but the sign up bonus is not what we’re used to for airline credit cards. It also comes with a $95 annual fee, which makes it hard to justify applying for the card. Amex MR, SPG, and Citi TYP are all Asia Miles transfer partners, so there’s probably better cards out there to consider before this one.

One plus for this card is that it is issued by Synchorny Bank so most people won’t be limited by the major banks’ application rules.
