Chase Freedom 2019 Quarter 1 Categories

Chase Freedom is one of the more popular rewards credit cards. With no annual fee, 5X rotating bonus categories and points that convert to Ultimate Rewards when paired with a premium card, it is a product worth considering. I personally have a few. 😉

Unlike Discover who released their categories all at once, Chase likes to drip the Freedom’s bonus categories out by quarter. Today we have learned which categories will earn 5% back on the Chase Freedom in the first quarter of 2019 on up to $1,500 in spend. Let’s take a look!

Chase Freedom January – March, 2019 Bonus Categories

Here are the just announced bonus categories for Chase Freedom from January – March, 2019:

  • Gas Stations: Even as gas prices fluctuate, Chase Freedom cardmembers can maximize their spending and earn 5% cash back when they fuel up at gas stations.
  • Drugstores: From everyday necessities to stocking up on cold medicine this flu season, Chase Freedom is helping customers earn cash back on many of their winter must-haves.
  • Tolls: Whether it’s visiting colleges, weekend getaways or just their daily commute – Chase Freedom cardmembers can earn 5% cash back on tolls on their next trip.

Chase Freedom Welcome Offer

Chase Freedom 2019 Quarter 1 Categories

If you don’t currently have the Chase Freedom card (and aren’t over 5/24), it can be a great first card to get with Chase. It comes with a $150 welcome offer after spending $500 within the first 3 months.

Conclusion

With the ability to earn 5% back at gas stations and drug stores, there is plenty of opportunity to max out the $1,500 in spend in the first quarter even if you don’t live in a state with an abundance of tolls. In other words, these categories signal a good start to the year with the Chase Freedom card.

  1. Nope, can’t max it out. There will be zero spend on my chase freedom next quarter. Hardly buy anything from drug stores, I probably spent less than $25 this year total. Gas is cheaper at Costco (but most likely the gas stations are just significantly overpriced compared to costco), and I’m not sure if that even codes as gas with this card. I don’t think we have tolls in Hawaii.
