Sapphire Reserve Application Link Down

Update The app is back up.

With the widespread mania surrounding the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and the amount of cards that Chase has no doubt issued, one has to wonder if they are rethinking this product. We have seen them add 5/24 language to the application for the first time and they have even seemingly run out of the fancy packaging they send to new cardholders.

Now, the Chase Sapphire Reserve application link is down. It leads to the following screen:

I checked the bank’s direct application link along with affiliate links from a number of sites and they all lead to the same message. One has to wonder if they are making a change to the card, its bonus or if this is just a glitch. While I don’t know that, here is what I do know:

  • Other Chase apps are working.
  • Nothing has seemingly been announced  yet.
  • That is it.

Conclusion

Yes, I absolutely think this card has been more popular than Chase Executives originally believed and yes I do think they are probably reevaluating the bonus and other features for the future, but I don’t see them making any big changes so quickly after the card was launched given their marketing push and the overall coverage in mainstream media.

What do you think? Is this just a glitch (a widespread one), is Chase making a minor change or will the app come back with some major differences than before?

  1. This product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this credit card within the last 24 months.

New offer terms just state not available if you already have had this card in 24 mo

  2. What would it say for a company the size of Chase to so grossly underestimate response to an offer that they’d have to withdraw or dilute benefits so quickly? Very disappointing if true.

    • yea. and reduce travel credit to $200, reduce travel redemption to 1.2 CPP and reduce 3x Travel/Dining to 2X only all by Sept 2017 w/ no retention bonus… however, 5/24 language on that CC will be removed…

  3. I’d be surprised if anything is meaningfully changed. At least in-branch. Chase clearly put a lot of thought into this product, and they have a lot of in-branch marketing materials for the CSR (and showing the CSR next to the other UR products). But nobody knows for sure.
