Check Your Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card Upgrade Offer
UPDATE: Reports in our Facebook group are that more people are receiving targeted email upgrade offers and many of these are for 50,000 points. Be sure to check for the email if you didn’t upgrade last time around.
The new Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Card went live yesterday and existing card members are eligible to receive an upgrade offer. Doctor of Credit reported yesterday that members are receiving between 0 and 50,000 points to upgrade to the new card, which has an increased annual fee of $95, up $10 from the previous version. Check out our review of the new Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Card, which also has a nice breakdown of the differences between the existing version and the Plus.
If you have a Marriott Rewards Card you can check your upgrade offer here. I tried this for both the Business as well as the personal version and no surprise that it only worked for personal.
It seems the offers are all over the place. Doc reported they range from nothing to 50k points. My offer was for 20,000 bonus points after upgrading and making a single purchase by 12/31/18. You can also take advantage of this offer until 12/31/18, which is a pretty generous window to decide what you’d like to do.
It’s hard to say whether you should take the upgrade offer since there are a few unknown key factors. Considerations include: how the annual fee will be charged, will your elite credits disappear since it seems they won’t be available on the Premier Plus card until 2019 and will there perhaps be a better upgrade offer if you wait it out. You cannot receive the sign-up bonus on this card if you have the current Marriott Rewards card or you received the bonus in the last 24 months, so I’m curious if you were to take advantage of the upgrade points and still cancel when you’re close to 24 months.
If you don’t have the existing Marriott Rewards Card is is still available, so if you prefer it to the new one, I’d sign up ASAP. Remember this card is subject to 5/24 and the 24 month bonus restriction. Check out our Guide to 5/24 for complete details.
I’d love to hear what you all are thinking or planning on doing in the comments section.
