Citi AAdvantage 50k $200 bonus

Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard, A Better Signup Bonus is Here!!!

The revamped Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard became available for applications on May 3rd. The standard bonus on the card is now 60K AA miles, but we also mentioned a targeted offer for 65K AA miles. But, a new offer has surfaced, and it could be the best one yet on this card.

The Offer

  • Earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles after spending $2,500 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
  • Plus, new cardmembers can also receive up to a $200 statement credit on eligible American Airlines purchases in the first 12 months of account opening
  • Annual fee $99, waived for the first 12 months

Card Benefits

  • 2X AAdvantage miles for every $1 you spend on Restaurants and Gas
  • 2X AAdvantage miles for every $1 you spend on American Airlines purchases
  • First checked bag free on domestic itineraries
  • No foreign transaction fees No foreign transaction fees
  • Preferred boarding Preferred boarding on flights
  • 10% of your redeemed AAdvantage miles back, up to 10,000 per year
  • Reduced Mileage Award scissors Reduced Mileage Awards
  • Inflight discount 25% savings on inflight food and beverage purchases
  • $100 AA flight discount after you spend $20,000 or more during your card membership year and you renew your card.

Eligibility

American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi® / AAdvantage® card (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.

Analysis

The public offer is now 60,000 miles after spending $3,000 in three months. With this offer you get 10,000 less miles but you get a $200 statement credit on eligible American Airlines purchases. Buying tickets, or paying for taxes and fees should trigger the $200 credit. So I think most people will value this $200 credit more than 10,000 AAdvantage miles.

Conclusion

The upgraded card will now earn 2X AAdvantage miles for every $1 you spend on Restaurants and Gas. You also get a $100 AA flight discount after you spend $20,000 or more during your card membership year and you renew your card. There’s now two choices for most people, either 60K miles or 50K and a $200 credit.

Keep in mind that you are not eligible for the bonus if you have opened or closed any Citi / AAdvantage card in the past 24 months.
