City National Bank Now Refunds Annual Fees

City National Bank announced last month a huge devaluation to its Crystal Visa Infinite Card. They reduced some perks and cut others altogether. You can read more about that here.

One issue for those that have the card was that CNB never refunds annual fees once they post. But with the big devaluation of their premium card it looks like they have changed course, and are willing to give out refunds. There’s a few reports of this happening on reddit, even after more than 30 days of the annual fee posting on the account.

You just need to reach out to your banker and ask for the refund. It’s not a guarantee, but it is definitely worth a try if you have recently paid the annual fee and want to close the card.

Conclusion

This is a positive development from CNB. Many people paid their annual fees in September and October and then learned that the perks on the card were being cut back.

  1. I would have been surprised if they had not been sued. I am still surprised they can make the change in jan/1 instead of on the card anniversary date.
