Discover Authorized User Bonus
Discover just sent me a targeted offer to add an authorized user to my account. Let’s take a look at the offer and why it probably isn’t that great of a deal!
Get $25 Cashback Bonus® after you add an Authorized User and spend $3,000 in combined purchases by September 30, 2019.
- Only purchases made after the Authorized User is added will count towards the $3,000 spend threshold.
- Offer is limited to one Authorized User Cashback Bonus promotion per account.
- Once promotion details are met, cash back will be credited to your account within three billing cycles.
As you can see this has an almost outrageous spending requirement considering the size of the bonus. The only scenario I could see this really making sense is if I was going to meet my 5% category spend anyway. Unfortunately this quarter ends tomorrow and the promotion ends September 30 meaning it would be hard to double dip on the 5% spending.
In other words this is probably a pass for me, but if I still had my $1,500 in spend for Q2 and planned to max out my 5% categories in Q3 I would definitely consider it.
This is the first time I have been targeted for a Discover authorized user bonus. I’m glad to see these types of bonuses are spreading, however Discover needs to up the bonus or back off that high spending requirement in order to get me to jump!
