Discover Double Cashback Still Available

Last year Discover made waves when they introduced Double Cashback for a year. At first, the promotion was available to both existing and new cardmembers, but eventually Discover tightened up and only allowed it for people opening new cards.

The Double Cashback promotion was supposed to expire awhile ago, but after a couple of extensions, the new expiration date became December 31, 2015. Fortunately it seems that the promotion has been extended again. This time I can’t seem to find an expiration date at all.

Here is what their site looks like for the Discover it:

Discover it Miles is still offering the same “Double Miles” promotion on all purchases as well:

Finding the Best Offer

Currently the best offer to apply for the Discover it card is through someone’s personal referral link. Applying through one of those links gives a $50 sign-up bonus that is doubled at the end of the first year. Here is my personal referral link if you are interested.

Unfortunately when you click through it doesn’t really show any information about the Discover double cashback promotion or the $50 sign-up bonus. You can still find the terms though by digging a little deeper. After entering your name on the first page, you will get to the application. Once there, click “See rates, rewards and other info” as shown below.

Within the terms you will find the details of both the double cashback offer and the $50 referral sign-up bonus. (Which becomes $100 once doubled.)

TERMS OF CASHBACK BONUS OFFER: Get a $50 Cashback Bonus after you make your first purchase within 3 months of being approved. Promotional award will be applied within 8 weeks. The promotional award is in addition to the Cashback Bonus earned on all purchases.

Double First Year Cash Back: After the first 12 consecutive billing periods that your new account is open, we will double all the cash back rewards you’ve earned and apply them to your account in the following one or two billing cycles. You’ve earned rewards when they have posted to your account by the end of the 12th consecutive billing period. You will not receive Double Cash Back if your account is closed or no longer in the cash back reward program as of the award date. This promotional offer may not be offered in the future. This exclusive offer is available only to new cardmembers.

Conclusion

If for some reason you didn’t sign-up for the Discover card before the end of the year, there appears to still be time to get Double Cashback. I honestly don’t expect Discover to end this promotion soon, however there is a possibility that it was supposed to end on December 31 and they just haven’t updated the links. Hopefully they will come out and announce an extended expiration date, however for now at least you can still get this deal if you are interested.

  1. ah, still doing the discover dance…. worst card I picked up last summer — thank to you and Greg pumping it so hard.

given how TERRIBLE discover tracking is, often times taking 2 and 3 months (IF they bother to remember), I’m already wondering at what point I just stop using Discover. (yes, my first year doesn’t end til mid July — but heck, with discover’s miserable non-track record, I half expect purchases I make now in January might not be posted by July — and thus not get doubled)

Misery, fraud, corporate america at its pathethic lowest, thy name is Discover.
