Unless you already have a Visa to India, please be careful about booking anything in Sept. or even early October. We are going to India (via cruise ship) in Dec. and sent the application into the “official” processor of Indian passports CKGS 2 weeks ago. Husband got an email today saying that the Consulate has returned the application to CKGS because he needs to submit a “religious undertaking letter.” This was not part of the official visa application. His application clearly stated he was going for tourism reasons, not religious reasons, and CKGS’ own checklist of documents did not include this as something that needed to be included. Called CKGS today after receiving the email, and the phone rep has to submit a request to a supervisor to provide him with the form so that he can email the form to my husband. (The phone rep is based in Mumbai–it’s night there when it’s day here, so the supervisor wasn’t in when I called at midnight Mumbai time.) The phone rep said wait 24-48 hours to get the form. I actually [poke to two reps and got conflicting information on how to submit the additional documentation—one said by mail, one said by email. Will follow-up with them again after I get the form. Just saying that this is not necessarily a smooth process, so give yourself ample time for the visa application process when you book your flight on this deal.
