Expired Hyatt Free Night Award
World of Hyatt is one of my favorite travel loyalty programs and the only program where I legitimately earn top-tier status just about every year. I find their top tier Globalist status to be highly rewarding when on the road and I appreciate the suite upgrades and lounge access as well.
One of the cool perks of racking up nights with Hyatt are the Milestone Rewards that give you little “gifts” along the way. The World of Hyatt Milestones are as follows:
- 20 nights or 35K Base points – 2 Club Lounge Access Rewards
- 30 nights or 50K base points – 1 Category 1-4 Free Night Award & 2 Club Lounge Access Awards
- 40 nights or 65K base points – Choice of 5K Hyatt points, $100 Hyatt gift card or 10K points off a FIND experience
- 50 nights or 80K base points – 2 Suite Upgrade Awards
- 60 nights or 100K base points – 1 Category 1-7 Free Night Award and 2 Suite Upgrade Awards + access to My Hyatt Concierge
- 70, 80, 90 & 100 nights – 10,000 bonus points or 1 Suite Upgrade Award
I really love these milestones since you are earning more as you go. It’s nice to get something every 10 nights of the journey. There are a few catches though. For example, the free night certificates earned at 30 and 60 nights expire after 6 months. Thankfully, if you end up with an expired Hyatt free night award certificate you may still be able to get some value out of it.
How to Get Points for an Expired Hyatt Free Night Award
This year I traveled A LOT to start the year and ended up hitting my 60 night tier pretty early on. Time flew by after I earned my Category 1-7 certificate and I just didn’t find a great value use for it.
In the past Hyatt has been generous with some expired certs and allowing an exchange for points after the expiration date. I should say this isn’t part of their terms and is done as a courtesy (thus it isn’t guaranteed for everyone), but I was recently able to get points for my expired Hyatt free night award certificate.
Success Getting Points for an Expired Hyatt Free Night Award
As a Globalist I have access to My Hyatt Concierge so that is where I started, however in the past the Hyatt Twitter team has provided similar help to me. To get the points for my expired Hyatt free night certificate I simply emailed my concierge and asked if there was anything she could do since I wasn’t able to use the certificate before it expired.
While admittedly I haven’t found the concierges to provide service much above what I could get from Twitter, my concierge did respond to my inquiry fairly quickly and offer 20K points for my certificate! That is the same offer I had heard of in the past and I quickly accepted. I value World of Hyatt points at about 1.5 cents each, meaning these points have a fairly substantial value.
If you have an expiring or expired World of Hyatt free night award certificate and cannot use it, then it cannot hurt to ask for some points in exchange for it. This worked for me as of about a week ago and has worked for many other people I know. Hopefully Hyatt will continue to be generous with these expired certificates, since it is just another reason I feel their program is a cut above the rest.
