Days 317-319 Sunday-Tuesday March 2-4, 2008 – Gold Coast & Brisbane, Australia

Our last few days in Queensland were spent back on the Gold Coast. We decided to get a hotel room near the beach for easy access to the Gold Coast’s white sandy coastline. We also chose our hotel specifically because it had free wifi. I figured having the internet access would help me catch up with my posts on this here website.

While I did a lot of work on the website, not much else happened. Since the weather continued to be downright horrible, we rarely ever ended up at the beach. (In fact these photos are from our only visit during a brief break between rain.) Instead, we once again found ourselves at a local mall trying to pass the time. Seeing that we had already spent so much money during our two weeks in Queensland, Jasmine and I just weren’t in the mood to visit any touristy places.

Our hotel on the Gold Coast was fairly standard. The room did have two beds and air conditioning, but the owner wasn’t very nice. He didn’t like how much I was using the internet, so he cut me off without saying anything. It was only after I went in the office and asked what happened that he told me I was cut off. After asking for a refund and telling him I would be happy to stay elsewhere he allowed me back on.

This little incident made me want to get out of Queensland even more. Our first two months in Aussie land were incredible. We had fun and met some wonderful people. It seems like Queensland was just the opposite for us. The weather has been horrible and we just haven’t enjoyed ourselves very much. I don’t know whether it is us, Queensland, the weather, or a combination of all three, but this is just how we feel.

With that said, we were glad to see that our hotel was located across the street from a Sizzler. Salads aren’t as popular in Australia and you simply can’t find Blue Cheese dressing anywhere. We enjoyed eating the salad bar at Sizzler two different times. While it isn’t my preferred restaurant of choice at home, it did the trick here.

Putting my complaints aside, I can’t tell you how much we are looking forward to getting to Southeast Asia. Starting off in Singapore, we will travel up through Malaysia and eventually into Thailand. This change of scenery and culture should be just want we need to get jump started again. All I can say is bring on Darwin and then Singapore. We are ready!

We want to thank everyone for the comments and emails. Your support is truly appreciated and keeps us going.
