Forget to Select Uber Cash/Credits? There Is A Simple Fix
Uber is not the most customer friendly company on the planet. Especially when it comes to their American Express credits. Last year they changed their set up so that credits are not used first, you have to actually select them. And if you don’t have enough to cover it you need to buy more Uber cash before taking the ride. It is a truly terrible policy. And what happens when you forget to select Uber cash or your Amex credits? Are you stuck with your mistake? Not at all, there is an easy fix.

How I Fixed My Uber Cash Error
On our recent trip to Philadelphia I wanted to use my Uber Cash balance. I bought a couple $50 gift cards on PPDG for 10% off and thought I could save some easy money. I did a couple of rides to and from the airport in Philly and I hailed the car without thinking twice about it. It didn’t dawn on me until later that I had made a stupid error. How could I forget to select Uber Cash as my payment method? Rookie mistake, I know! Regardless that it is a terrible policy, I should have known better.
At first I figured that I would just use it on one of my upcoming trips, no big deal. But what if you didn’t have anything upcoming or you often purchased discounted gift cards? The good news is that there is a way to erase your error after the fact and you have 30 days to do it (60 for business trips).
Uber emails you a receipt for your ride and near the bottom it says change payment option:
On the next page say you want to change the payment method:
On the last page select Uber Cash and you should be set. Be sure to check your credit card a few days later to ensure the charge properly drops off.
Final Thoughts
Uber may not be the most customer friendly company and their Uber Cash process blows but I give them some credit for leaving you an out. You can actually change it if you end up getting an Amex Offer or a deal of gift cards etc. a few weeks down the road.
There are a few exceptions to this:
You won’t be able to switch to or from Apple Pay, Google Pay, Paytm, ZaakPay, American Express reward points, or cash (if you’re in a city that accepts cash as a payment option).
Those exceptions are something to be aware of but it doesn’t apply to most of us.
If you are on auto pilot after a long flight or a late night and forget to select Uber cash just remember that you have options and time to fix it.

Thanks, uber cash is a scam and they got rid of any discounts or incentives to use it. Never use uber cash, it is a shameless scam and money grab by uber.
