Ways to Keep Points Alive

For most of the programs listed below, your points will expire after a specified period of “inactivity”. The most popular ways to keep your points from expiring are to complete a stay or redeem points for an award night. The majority of the programs will also consider any activity that changes your points balance as qualifying activity with a few notable exceptions listed under the specific loyalty program.

  1. Choice Privileges has a shopping portal that I use to keep my points alive. Whenever my expiration date drops below 6 months, I make a purchase through the portal to reset the expiration clock. It can take a couple of months to get the points credited so don’t wait until the last month to do this.

  2. One way to keep Wyndham points alive would be to transfer them to Caesars Rewards (which expire after 6 months of no activity) and then transfer them back to Wyndham. The big caveats of this are that the transfers are incredibly slow taking 6-8 weeks each way and you are limited to transferring 30,000 points per year.
